Most rednecks are gun buffs. They also know you don't point at anything you don't intend to shoot, and you don't put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Thousands of rednecks are hunters and they don't shoot each other or themselves.

A Muncie man was recovering from emergency surgery at a Fort Wayne hospital Sunday after having accidentally shot himself at a gun range.

Dale was with a friend at the Deer Creek Conservation Club Friday when, for unknown reasons, his SKS semi-automatic rifle discharged several times.

Two shots went through Dale's abdomen, and the Muncie man was taken by medical helicopter to the Fort Wayne hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

Though they missed his major arteries, the bullets did pierce Dale's small intestine and part of his colon. He is expected to remain in the intensive care unit at Parkview Hospital Trauma Center for at least two weeks...

A Philadelphia man showing off what he thought was an unloaded gun the day before he was to start a job as a security guard accidentally shot a friend in the face and killed her, police said.

Sandrea Smith, 35, of the 2900 block of North 26th Street, was shot once in the left cheek and died at the scene, according to police.

The incident happened in a bedroom of a home in the 2100 block of East Somerset Street in Kensington.

Robert Jones, 36, who resides at the address, was charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, endangering another person, and weapons charges.

Jones, who thought the gun was not loaded, had taken gun-safety classes for an armed security-guard certification and had a Florida permit to carry a gun.

Michael Cornell is said he is still shaken after a bullet went through the wall of his home.

Cornell said the bullet came through his home after a neighbor in the adjoining townhouse who was cleaning his gun discharged the firearm by mistake.

The bullet wound up on Cornell's staircase, minutes after his eight-year-old daughter was playing on the stairs with her friends.

Cornell said police came out to his home, but they couldn't do anything because the incident was ruled as an accident.

Channel 4 asked firearm rights attorney Eric Friday why that is and he said unless someone is physically injured, it can be tough.

"Accidents do happen and if nobody's hurt it's no harm no foul," said Friday. "Now the gentleman could be held responsible for the property damage. But that's a civil matter, not a criminal matter."

Channel 4 tried to speak with Cornell's neighbor, but no one answered the door. Out in front of the townhouse there's a truck with a bumper sticker that reads: "Gun Control means never having to say I missed you."

Channel 4 also got Cornell in touch with State Attorney Angela Corey, who he said was very helpful.

"She has agreed to meet me at courthouse at 10 a.m. tomorrow to walk me through hopefully getting a restraining order or injunction. If that occurs all weapons in his house have to be removed," said Cornell.

An 8-year-old Gerber girl who suffered accidental gunshot wounds to her arm and torso was taken by air to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

The victim, whose name was withheld, was shot in the arm by a 20 gauge shotgun at a residence in the 9100 block of Oat Avenue in Gerber, a Tehama County Sheriff's Office press release said.

The shotgun had been left loaded and propped against a wall of the dining room with the butt of the gun on a small wicker chair, when it fell and discharged a load of birdshot into the living room.

Pellets went through the arm of one of the couches and struck the victim in her bicep and abdomen, causing major injuries.

The 8-year-old victim and a 7-year-old friend were watching television alone in the living room when the gun went off.

Deputies believe that one of the several dogs in the home may have bumped the wicker chair, causing the shotgun to fall.

A firearms safety course went awry in Bedford County when a participant shot himself in the hand with a .45-caliber handgun and the bullet passed through his hand and struck his wife, seated next to him, in the leg.

The Deels were attending a firearms safety class being taught and hosted by Thomas Starke, 57, according to the department.

The sheriff's office said Starke told deputies that he had left the room, heard a shot and returned to find the Deels had been shot.

The couple was taken by ambulance to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

George Franco Enriquez, 41, shot his brother Michael, a 36-year-old Pittsburg resident, at Enriquez's home on Cambridge Drive on Saturday evening.

Officers were called to the home and found the younger sibling dead from a gunshot wound.

Enriquez told detectives that his younger brother brought over a newly obtained handgun to his house and that it fired while they were looking at it.

Enriquez was pointing the handgun at his brother when he tried to remove the slide, which in this model of gun requires a trigger pull.

But the gun was loaded, and it discharged.

Enriquez was well-versed in handling firearms, where one of the tenets is to always assume a gun is loaded, meaning one should keep it pointed at a location where the least amount of injury or damage would result in case of an accidental firing.

Police say a man sitting at his dining room table got the surprise of his life when a bullet flew through his ceiling, barely missing him.

And that was just the beginning.

Police swarmed Keegan Place Apartments, near Billtown and Fairground Roads.

According to an arrest report, 44-year-old Charles L. Hatchell, Jr. was in a second floor apartment and was cleaning his gun, when it went off.

The bullet went through the floor and out the ceiling of another man's apartment.

At first, officers couldn't get Hatchell to come out, but he finally emerged and admitted to drinking earlier in the evening, according to the arrest report.

Police say they found the gun under the bed, along with one of the two spent rounds.

Hatchell allegedly told them he flushed the other spent round down the toilet.

A witness listed on the arrest report told police that Hatchell called him after the incident and told him what happened.

That man told Hatchell to go downstairs to check on the resident.

Police say Hatchell, "admitted he did not check on the resident for fear of what he might find," and that this behavior shows, "an extreme indifference to the value of human life and created a substantial risk of death or serious injury to the victim."

Steve Williams, the park manager for Tenkiller State Park, Greenleaf State Park and Cherokee Landing State Park, died Thursday evening at his home at Greenleaf after a gun he was cleaning accidentally went off.

The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office received a call that Williams, 54, had gone to a back room to clean a gun when his wife reportedly heard a shot fired and said Williams came into the living room and collapsed.

A city man was taken to Bellevue Hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the hand with his friend's new handgun.

The 43-year-old man told Bellevue officers he was at the other man's home on the 400 block of North Sandusky Street when he went to get the gun out of a vehicle.

He said he was in the process of clearing the chamber in the 9mm Smith and Wesson MP9c when he shot his left hand.
The homeowner, who witnessed the shooting, told officers the bullet went straight through the other man's hand...
