LONDON — The British police on Sunday arrested Rebekah Brooks, the former head of Rupert Murdoch’s media operations in Britain, according to a former associate at News International, the newspaper group at the heart of a phone-hacking scandal convulsing the Murdoch empire, the British political elite and the police.

The development was the latest twist in a series of events that has transformed Mr. Murdoch from a virtually untouchable force in the British media landscape to a mogul fighting for the survival of his power and influence.

Earlier on Sunday, the opposition leader, Ed Miliband, who has taken a lead in assailing Mr. Murdoch’s operations, called for the breakup of News International, the British subsidiary of Mr. Murdoch’s News Corporation. Mr. Miliband called the newspaper group’s influence “dangerous.”

A police statement did not identify Ms. Brooks by name but said a 43-year-old woman had been detained for questioning by officers investigating both the phone-hacking scandal and payments made to corrupt police officers. A News International official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the woman detained was Ms. Brooks.

Wow!

Is that true?

Where did you learn this?

As you have been wont to say: 'Link?'

David Cameron will be forced to explain damaging new revelations today that have dragged him deeper into the phone-hacking scandal.

It emerged last night that Neil Wallis, the former News of the World deputy editor who was arrested last week, worked for the Conservative Party before last year's election.

I say, Cammers, old bean, it rather appears that you must visit the head. Six of the best, don't ye know!
Can't push the old blame on old Clegg this time. I'm sure he will be pleased to massage the old posterior when you emerge though.

It it is being "rumored" that Soros wants to buy News Corp holdings-it is fact that he has had Murdoch in his crosshairs for some time now. That he, Soros, would be putting money and power behind powerful people like Miliband in order to drive this scandal is not beyond reason-see how he operates. Soros has already come out in support of Miliband politically.

so you don't actually have anything new to say. Then I must wonder why you said it. Flaming? Nahh it couldn't be that, could it. That's something other people do. And to compound your sillyness, all Soros has done is to agree with the vast majority of the British electorate.

Yeah Soros and his political allies...let's see a multi-billionaire who got that way by crippling the British pound and throwing in with drug cartels, also dabbles in British politics- perfect!

What's it like on your planet?
Perhaps if you had made it clear exactly which definition of the verb 'to back' you were using your message might have made more sense.
Mr. Soros 'agrees' with SOME of the policies of the Labour party in Great Britain as do most people. I can find no evidence to suggest that he has given substantial amounts of money to the party nor that he specifically supports Mr Miliband.
And if, by some chance, he was to financially support Mr. Miliband would it be, do you think, in Mr. Miliband's present role as leader of Her Majesty's opposition or in his capacity of a citizen of the United Kingdom, and would it make any difference? Bearing in mind that Murdoch UNASHAMEDLY supported the boy Cameron in all his media at the last election, are you supporting Soros as a possible 'leveller' of playing fields?. Or are you simply searching (unsuccessfully) for some anti left (for left read Democrat/Black) garbage because you have nothing worthwhile to add and because you are consumed with hatred for Obama..

it is perfectly fine to post 'rumors' especially if one makes it clear that it's only rumor.

You perfectly present yourself as the partisan. Soros has proven himself a ruthless and dishonest business mogul-that he puts his wealth and therefore his power behimd a politician should be of great concern- Murdoch has no such past, which is not equal to my saying he is without hie own problems.

Your constant need to paint me a racist is weak. You have failed to show a single racist statement or comment that I have made-indeed it is you, and posters like you, who take the debate to race bacuse yopu have nothing else to debate on. Obama is a leftist socialist in his world view-of course I am going to disagree with most all of his policies.

ID AKA Ms Damn Stankee has no problems with the Kochs, though, and their machinations are more than rumor.

You display such profound ignorance in this post that I am forced to try to respond with the care shown to a child.
George Soros has no more to do with the Labour Party of Great Britain than you have. Financial support of any political party above a quite modest amount must be declared so to bring Mr Soros into a discussion about Rebekah Brooks is ridiculous and clearly designed to capture a discussion of which you have little or no knowledge.
Then you say Murdoch has no such past ...! Have you the slightest idea what the present furore is about?
Murdoch has influenced every British election and every Australian election for the last three decades. There are three activities that he and News Corp are accused of. Hacking phones. Using his wealth and power to influence and often to threaten politicians and lastly, bribing the police. And you say Murdoch has 'no such past'!
You are absolutely incredible.
After your statements about Soros and Murdoch it hardly seems fair to point out the huge difference between Obama's centrist policies and socialism.3
Perhaps you were tired when you wrote that or genuinely misinformed. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you have displayed greater ignorance than seemed possible - even on this forum.

The knee-jerk ignorance is yours. My statement about Murdoch having no such past was right after my points about how Soros obtained his wealth i.e illegal manipulation of currency and aligning himself with South American drug cartels. Read much? Funneling money into political allies hardly needs to be done publicly or in such a way as to be traceable-DOH.

If the Labour Party were to reveive money as you suggest they would first be cock-a-hoop and tell everyone and should the money be tainted, it would be returned. Y'see the rest of the world isnt like America. I guess we are both happy with that.
