Yes this is a sports issue but because it involves state universities scumbag politicians will get involved. If the Big 12 is dissolved and a school like Iowa St. is left without a conference and a huge loss in revenue you know Iowa politicians are going to (try and) have a say.

If Texas and Oklahoma join the Pac-10 you are looking at a monster conference and all of a sudden the SEC is really sweating. You already see the SEC and ESEC (formerly known as ESPN) getting worried from just the talk.

Very interesting time in college athletics right now.

We have won 5 of the last 7 BCS Championships and 4 straight. Texas would be a great addition to ya'lls conference. But we will still win out in January.

Besides, the talk is that the SEC will add 4 schools and become as big.

I am so ready for NCAA Football!

You might want to be careful what you wish for. Having to play Texas and Oklahoma year in and year out before you get a shot at the title game can be a blessing or a curse.

If the other leagues expand and the Pac 10 stays put it's going to find itself in oblivion. It doesn't really have a choice, in my opinion, to stay with the status quo so expanding to a 16 team league with the Texas market would be a major coo for the conference. If, and it's still a big if, it does happen as is being discussed USC would be on the other side of the division from TX and OU. From USC's perspective if we are afraid to play them or play them and don't win then we don't deserve to be in the Championship Game. I'm not worried about that.

I would love to see the expansions being discussed. It'll make for more good football games.

Its not necessarily about fear. But look at the SEC. As far as the regular season and the conference championship games, Bama and Florida have only lost a combined 3 games in 2 years. And two of those were to each other.

But the better competition in a conference makes for better championship games.

lol, USC would vote down any real schools being added. Texas and OU would tap that ass annually. No they might add air force or Utah not powerhouse football teams though. No was Toe fu stays tender footed as a conference.

Well 55-19 and it took the greatest single performance in NCAA history to beat them the following year so I don't think there is too much fear. Look at the OOC schedule over the past decade if you think there is fear of playing anyone tough.

And you are obviously not following the expansion talks is you think the conference is adding Utah and Air Force.

given that TX just issued an ultimatum to Nebraska, this could all be decided in a couple of weeks (which is the deadline the Huskers have to respond to the Big 12).

My guess is this... IF Nebraska shifts to the little 10 (thus making it the new BIG 12), then you will see TX, TX tech, A&M, Oklahoma, OSU and Baylor shift to the Pac 10.

I know the current talk is that it would be Colorado rather than Baylor as the sixth team, but the TX politicians are already throwing their weight around. (which is what happened when the Big 12 formed and Baylor made the cut as the last team)

first rule should be.. No special college admittance for athletes. You have to have same grades as a non athlete to get in and to stay in.. Also should be required to get a valid major not some special athletic major.

Yes indeed, because Joe Average Football would be sooooo much fun to watch!

that would eliminate most schools with high academic requirements from ever fielding competitive teams (at least on a routine basis). The Big Ten, parts of the Big 12, parts of the Pac 10 etc... would not get top tier athletes. Instead all of the top athletes would go to the SEC.

Trust me, it aint the SEC that woud worry. It's the ACC as the SEC would just raid UNC, Miami, Va Tech and Ga Tech.

See my post in the sports sig.

so what.. its college. You play within your division. group them based on academic level or size and have individual division champions.

Having 3 16 team conferences would be disastrous for college football. It would essentially give the SEC, Big 10 and Pac 10 a virtual monopoly on both TV revenue and post season revenuse. This would be disastrous for the rest of division 1A Football. What we need is a 16 team playoff with automatic qualifiers for conference champs and 4 at large bids. I think you could even make a good argument for a 32 team playoff with 12 automatic qualifiers for conference champs and 20 at large teams. The whole NCAA Div 1A would benefit and it would generate 3 to 5 times the profits from post season play.

This power play by the Big 10 and Pac 10 could work to the advantage of us fans who want such a playoff system cause the rest of the conferences are now seeing the writing on the wall. They have been duped by the BCS.

No way USC is allowing Texas and NB!!!
what, having to play non high school conference games. No way!!!

There is no legitimate reason for the Pac 10 to expand beyond 12 teams necessary for a Pac 10 conference championship game (Same with the Big 10). This is purely a power play by the Big 10 and the Pac 10. The SEC, to its credit, has stead fastly maintained that they would prefer a playoff system. It has been the Big 10, Pac 10 and the Big 12 who have most adamently opposed a play off. It now appears that the Big 10 and Pac 10 dupped the Big 12 commisioners and plan on raiding them to create two 16 team super conferences.

If the Big 12 was smart they would join in a coalition with the SEC, ACC and Big East and create their own National Champion ship game. If the Big 10 and Pac 10 hold out, fine, they can just send their recruiters to Cleveland, Chicago, LA, Frisco and Detroit. I promise you the Big 10 and Pac 10 would cave.

I may be a Big 10 fan but I oppose this power play by the Big 10. It's not about football, tradition or even money. It's about power and the ability of two conferences to call the shots for the rest of college football.

You're seriously wrong. UT has one of the largest market shares for TV in all of college football. The Pac 10 would welcome them and NB and TT and OK with open arms. The Big 10 would gladly take ND, Pitt, Mizzou (or NB or TX) and Syracuse (or even OK State) That would force the SEC to raid the SEC for UNC, Miami, Va Tech and Ga Tech. The rest of college football would then have to kiss those 3 conferences asses.

I pretty much agree with you. I think then you would see ND, Pitt, Missou, Syracuse in addtion to NB join the Big 10. Let's hople like hell this doen't come to pass.

The good thing is that these machinations may lead to the play off system we've all been screaming form. If it does happen....Div IA college football is fucked.
