‘Reactionary nihilism’: how a rightwing movement strives to end US democracy

The result is Money, Lies and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy, which sees Stewart explore the “antidemocratic movement” – an unholy mix of Christian nationalists, billionaire oligarchs and conservative ideologues who have seized control of the Republican party, and aim to fundamentally change the US.

“The best label I can find for the phenomenon – and I do not pretend it is a fully satisfactory label – is ‘reactionary nihilism’. It is reactionary in the sense that it expresses itself as mortal opposition to a perceived catastrophic change in the political order; it is nihilistic because its deepest premise is that the actual world is devoid of value, impervious to reason, and governable only through brutal acts of will. It stands for a kind of unraveling of the American political mind – a madness that now afflicts one side of nearly every political debate.”

Yes, your label indeed needs work.

But first, maybe try reading a middle school civics book. You might find, if it's not one of those new, woke editions, the reasons we're not - and never have been or will be - a democracy. I'm thinking I might prepare a nice little explanation to paste in any libtard post whining about the 'THREAT TO DEMOCRACY'. Before you knee-jerk with a 'Nah uh, you're wrong, I just Googled it', I'm sure Google's top ten hits will say we're a 'representative democracy'. That, at best, is seriously oversimplified. The reality is, the term's been 'updated' in recent years, not because it better describes our system of government (which would be the typical reason for updating terminology).

So why then? Is it just easier to say? Representative Republic has less syllables, so that can't be it. Hmmm. Maybe it just sounds cooler. I'll let the guy who brought us 'reactionary nihilism' see if he can come up with a good reason. I'm skeptical because he apparently doesn't understand that nihilism is far more prevalent in the Democrat camp. Nihilism, by definition, denies the existence of God and explicitly states that life has no meaning. Hmmm. Which party constantly mocks and condemns religion? This is getting a bit long now; I've heard that's difficult for many libtards, so I'll let you stew on that a bit.

Have you ever had even one thought of your own other than "goodbye troll", which you probably read somewhere.

"Among the leaders of that movement were Thomas Monaghan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza who in 2002 attempted to build a 250ft-tall crucifix in Michigan, banker Frank Hanna, hedge fund manager Sean Fieler and Timothy Busch, who in donating to the Catholic University of America in 2015 announced that he was “proud to donate to CUA’s vision for an educational program that shows how capitalism and Catholicism can work hand in hand”. Together, they and others have pledged fortunes toward Republican candidates and causes, and established thinktanks and organizations designed to push pro-capitalist, antidemocratic causes – in a way Stewart said Democrats have yet to counter.

I know both.
Oh forgive me then, it's just your whole premise is based on this perceived DANGER TO DEMOCRACY. No worries, we don't have one. I'm equally perplexed with your best attempt at a label. Using a word that works far better to describe a libtard doesn't seem like a great choice. I don't know, I'm really trying to point out the obvious to maybe help you better formulate your ideas and concepts. I'm impressed you tried, libtard ideas are very hard to come by, so, there's that.

I didn't realize you knew how utterly moronic the review is. I assumed you were some kind of mindless libtard drone that wasn't aware we are a representative republic. Also, I should apology, it was your attempt to label people on the right, “The best label I can find for the phenomenon........is reactionary nihilism" how utterly ridiculous. I was thinking, look, how cute, it's a libtard trying to have an idea, and that's really hard to find. You get a lot of credit for trying, even if you got it ass-backward.

No. Just sick of you fascists.
You wont have to worry about it much longer. When you are placed into one of the work camps there is no time for talking,......simply working. WORK will be your focus,... nothing else. So toughen up snowflake,....your going to need to.
