Rand Paul-Typical lying, two-faced Rightie

Less than a week after his election, Kentucky's Senator-elect Rand Paul already appears to be making a rapid departure away from one of his campaign promises: an earmark ban that stood as a conservative cornerstone, a position Paul touted to indicate he was serious about tackling the reckless spending practices of Washington.

Here's what Paul told the Wall Street Journal over the weekend:

In a bigger shift from his campaign pledge to end earmarks, he tells me that they are a bad "symbol" of easy spending but that he will fight for Kentucky's share of earmarks and federal pork, as long as it's doled out transparently at the committee level and not parachuted in in the dead of night. "I will advocate for Kentucky's interests," he says.

Such statements would have seemed impossible back in March. Here's Paul's clear-cut pledge to tackle the "corrupting" carve-outs of federal money:

Rand Paul has made a ban on wasteful earmark spending in Washington D.C. one of the key points of his campaign. He has supported Sen. Jim DeMint's vocal support for an earmark ban and he supports news that House Democrats are even coming around on the idea of a partial ban.

America deserves what we get because in two short years everyone has already forgotten what lying Righties did to this country when they were in charge.

Well, one lesson both parties should have learned from last week's open season on incumbents is that the electorate is growing more impatient, demanding, and fickle.

Candidates who break promises may find shorter shelf lives, perhaps due to boards like this one and the easy availability of information on the internet.

Poor Yurtsie. Pwned again.

Maybe he's exhausted from dealing with all those "clients" he helped today.

Yes, what a huge political Gaffe! Doing what every politician does every election, and Zap somehow finds issue with this!

Yeah, guess what fools? The best liar wins every time.

You all get what you deserve.

but...but...but I'd heard from people here who tell me every day that they are smarter than me that Rand Paul was DIFFERENT from all those OTHER lying sacks of garbage.

He was DIFFERENT don't ya know!

Oh no...Paul won't be the same old Rightie bullshit artist...he's going to CHANGE how things get done...

That's what they said...day in...day out.

guess the question was too difficult for Zappie to answer but I am still curious.....what was the lie?......

I suppose it's more accurate to call it a flip-flop, though such a quick turnabout on a campaign promise does make the promise dishonest at best.

And he's not the only one....

I should know how this works but I don't. If you represent a district or state and you want money for let's say a freeway project if you put that request into an existing bill that would be pork correct? How would you make that request so it is not considered pork?

what was the flip flop....the OP has him saying wasteful earmarks, nothing about necessary monies for necessary projects etc....

Hilarious. I love it how quickly you become a careful reader.

By the way:

Rand Paul appreciates Republican Senator Jim DeMint introducing today a one-year ban on earmark spending and a balanced-budget amendment. Rand strongly supports both initiatives and has made them centerpieces of his campaign for limited government, including his signing of the Citizens Against Government Waste “No pork pledge.”

That’s why my platform of reform is important. We must balance the budget and end deficit spending. We have to fight for Term Limits, and for an end to earmarks. We need to force them to read the bills, and to pass bills that have constitutional justification for federal action.

He has taken a no earmark pledge and strongly opposes more earmarked, pork barrel spending schemes.

And if every member of Congress pledge to end wasteful earmark spending while getting to decide for him or herself what "wasteful" means you aren't going to end up with any cuts at all.

i read that the first time it was posted, hence why i've asked the question from the beginning...so your first sentence makes zero sense

seems to me, his context is about wasteful spending, not cutting out all spending

the last is likely true, however, how do you propose to get shovels on the ground or roads built etc...with no earmarks? i think we can easily determine pork from kosher spending...

Actually, sometimes he referred to "wasteful earmark spending" whereas on other occasions he pledged to end earmarks. I mean, how in the hell do you square his website stating that he has made a "no earmark pledge" with the latest? He's full of shit. Always has been.

At best, Rand Paul was intentionally misleading when he said he wanted to end "wasteful earmark spending."

Likely true? Of course it's true. Anyone can pledge not to ask for wasteful spending so long as they get to decide for themselves what "wasteful" means.

And look, I don't have a problem with earmarks. I don't give a shit about them and think that on balance they are a good thing. But I didn't run for Senate claiming to want to end them, either. Ask Rand Paul.

The very first sentence of Nigel's first link:

Rand Paul has made a ban on wasteful earmark spending in Washington D.C. one of the key points of his campaign.

I don't expect anything like proof placed right under your nose to get you to admit I was right...but one never knows.
