Rains wash away Mount Obama in Charlotte, N.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama — an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.

Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade of the waist-up rendering of the chief executive.

The sand sculpture was protected from above, and Mr. Obama's face didn't see too much damage. But the storm was so strong that its heavy winds blew the rain sideways, pelting the president's right side and leaving the sand pockmarked and completely erasing his right elbow.

Democrats' choice of Charlotte has drawn criticism from unions who don't like North Carolina's labor laws, and the state seems to be tilting away from Democrats politically.

The large Rushmore-style sculpture drew comparisons to Mr. Obama's 2008 convention in Denver, when he accepted his party's nomination on a stage that looked like a Greek temple.

:rofl2:
If it were only that easy to get rid of him...

I have to applaud the attention to detail in this statue......like the real Obama, it is hollow and its base is eroding.......

good pic, i couldn't find one( tried to start a thread). Is it me? or is this as weird as Clint talking to an empty chair?

Of course, the story behind the sand sculpture is nothing like what the crazies want you to think...

The visitors bureau for Myrtle Beach, S.C., paid $30,000 to build the sculpture that sits a few blocks from the convention hall, said spokeswoman Nora Battle. Fifteen tons of mine sand were used because the fine grains of beach sand can be unstable in a sculpture.

Sand sculptor Larry Hudson said it took a team of five people about 3 days to finish the sculpture, which shows the president with his arms crossed and smiling broadly. Hudson said the sculptors finished Saturday just before a large thunderstorm struck, requiring some quick repair work.

"That's kind of the hazard of sand sculpting," said Hudson, who works for Team Sandtastic out of Sarasota, Fla.

The group has done sand sculptures for Myrtle Beach before, including Democratic presidential candidates before a 2008 debate there and Republicans before a presidential debate earlier this year.

So basically Obama finds it necessary to copy the opposition, in an attempt to bolster his failings. :D

You really need to stop projecting the images of yourself, that are reflected in the mirror, onto others. :palm:
At least he pulled out of your ass and came on your butt cheeck instead. :D
