Qatar Air Force Facility

It looks like they’re building an air force facility for the Qatar Air Force right in my own back yard at the Mountain Home Air Base.

I guess that’s what a country gets as a reward for giving an airplane to Trump.

Will be the 1st foreign military facility on US soil
Hardly. The German Luftwaffe has their flugabwherschule at Ft. Huachuca AZ for a long time back in the 70's and 80's as one example. While there are no independent foreign military bases in the US, there are a number of foreign military operations being done jointly on US bases in the US. This particularly true with pilot training.

I can not believe the very conservative state of Idaho will approve of this in their backyard, or am I wrong?

"Hegseth said that the facility would host a contingent of Qatari F-15s and pilots."

There is no logical reason for Qatar to have a military base in North America.

Maybe they are intended to be part of Trump's private military, since US armed forces swear allegiance to the Constitution, not to Trump.

Okay, this is pretty standard stuff with foreign air forces and pilot training. Luke and Davis Monthan AFB both do this sort of thing with a number of foreign air forces. Their pilots fly in for advanced training in a range of areas, particularly attacking ground targets as the Goldwater Bombing Range is one of the largest in the world.

So they had a base built for them?

Idaho is an ideal environment for desert warfare training??

I would think one of the numerous DOD training facilities in the California and Nevada deserts.

Why did they need a base built for the tiny and insignificant Qatari air force, rather than training at any number of existing facilities foreign pilots come and train at?

Southeast Colorado would be a good place for it... You even get tarantulas in the fall.

Not unusual. Most of it is likely just reusing existing facilities by updating them for the particular needs of the Qatar air force. When I was in bootcamp back in a different century, the Iranian navy--under the Shah--had a compound on the base to train their sailors. This stuff has been going on since at least WW 2. It's really not a big deal.

Training at existing facilities is one thing. BUILDING a facility for a foreign air force is another.

Depends on what the pilots are being trained to do.
