Further sources boast the situation is '100 percent under control' as Russian forces advance on the capital, Kyiv. 'It's a generation or more since we witnessed such bloodshed in Europe. We hoped we would never have to see such sights again.'

'The people of the United Kingdom stand with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters in this unjustifiable assault on your homeland.

'We salute the fierce bravery and patriotism of your government, your military and your people.'

Immediately after the Russians defeated Hitler's eastern front - and literally won the war for the allies- Winston Churchill tried to persuade the US to attack them. His request was refused.

Other sources say the same. New York Times this morning has a front page map showing extent of Russian advances into the country. Except for Crimea and the breakaway region bordering Russia the encroachments are only around the borders. Unfortunately, Kyiv is near the border and the Russian advance there is to the outskirts of the city. I heard a military analyst say a couple of weeks ago that if the Russians invade "the first day will be their best day".

Putin can surely take control of Ukraine but, never underestimate the power and resolve of an armed society that does not choose to deal with thirty genders, multiple pronouns, and men that can get pregnant. The wolf is at their door. Time for some ass kicking.

Although not nearly as tribal as Afghanistan, they will not go down without a lot of guerilla warfare. I admire them.

Its a matter of perspective. Are they taking more casualties than anticipated? Im sure they are. but on the other hand its day 3 and they are in Kiev. On the other hand it took the US forces 2 weeks from the time the first declaration of war started to the time they took down the statue of Saddam. Somehow the Russians are just held to some unreasonable standard where they lose if they dont take the capital in the first day.

Russia is also being far kinder to Ukraine than the US was to Iraq. If I was in charge I would just constantly have Kiev under artillery barrage while spending the actual effort on Kharkiv , Mestipol, and the other cities I actually want to keep.
