A penis-headed statue of Vladimir Putin has been unveiled in the village of Bell End to commemorate him as "Bellend of the Year" in protest against Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The effigy appeared on Thursday (December 15) alongside a street sign in the centre of the Worcestershire village.

Should Donetsk be reclaimed by the UK?

The city of Donetsk owes its foundation to a Welshman, John Hughes, who established a metal-working complex there in 1870. Many engineering and managerial posts under Hughes were held by British immigrants. The city that developed was called Hughesovka (Yuzovka), then Stalino in 1924, and finally Donetsk in 1961.

After Putin took Crimea in 2014, some Donetsk citizens launched a campaign to “reunite” Donetsk with the UK. Sadly, they didn’t know the difference between Welsh and English …

"Donetsk residents! English brothers! The decisive moment has come!” says the online appeal. “We demand a referendum on returning Yuzovka to its historical fold as part of the UK! Glory to John Hughes and his city! God save the Queen!”
