Putin claimed the fear of NATO was one reason for invading the Ukraine. That has now led to Finland and Sweden joining NATO. Looks like Putin's plan backfired.

Any NATO movement on Russia would be thru Poland thru Ukraine, not the Baltics or Sweden
NATO promised Ukraine membership in 2008, we meddled in the Maidan, and Kyiv (but not Donbas) became increasingly hostile to Russia

Remember what the war is all about in terms of geopolitics - getting that buffer to NATO
and taking Donbas while establishing a land route to Crimea is the goal for Putin

Doesnt matter, Finland already had a robust defense.. The problem was always NATO expansion
and specifically west defacto expansin into Ukraine.

adding Sweden and Finland doesnt really change anything.
Ukraine is losing 1000x a day, Zelensky is still calling for more, so the pulverization of Uk continues

We are at war with Russia, im amazed Putin hasn't used thermobaric weapons in response

Obama was smart enough to try a Russian reset, Trump would have as well (he campaigned on it)
but Trump was hobbled by the Russian hoax.

Biden had a chance to stop the war by taking the Lavrov letters (Russian redlines) at face value.
He didn't- so here we are.

Have you even begun to comprehend the absolutely massive losses the Russian have taken in men and material. Its doubtful that they can hold out much longer.

in a war of attrition ( which this is) Russia wins..of course everyone loses - but Russia achieves it's goals.

what does Ukraine get by not suing for peace? more of the same massive losses and pulverization

Lets begin with your first lie, Ukraine is not losing 1000 soldiers per day, and you know it. Secondly Ukraine is receiving arms from almost ever NATO country. Russia will run out, Ukraine wont.
Now do you want to discuss the absolutely massive Russian losses to date?

Dukkha is correct that geographically, Finland and Sweden are meaningless to Putin.

If anything, he will use it as propaganda to reinforce his false narrative that this is about NATO.

loss estimates are all over the place Zelnsky says 200x a day, but also says Russia has lost 40k
both are no doubt low and high

I personally think NATO expansion was a major catalyst, but I think this is all about Ukraine
not "reconstituting Soviet Empire"..all the hegemony has come from the west

Russian artillery stocks are unknown. Ukraine forces are getting battered. nobody really knows
and a pause gives time for Russia to restock

you aint gonna find the answer in western military analysis - completely politicized
