Ukraine no-fly zone would mean participation in conflict: Putin
Russian president also says Western sanctions against his country following Ukraine invasion are akin to a declaration of war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned Western powers against imposing a “no-fly zone” over Ukraine, saying any such attempt by another country would be seen as a step into the military conflict between Russian and Ukrainian forces.

“Any movement in this direction will be considered by us as participation in an armed conflict by that country,” Putin said during a meeting with Aeroflot employees outside of Moscow on Saturday.

I saw the interview with translations. He actually said that Russia would take out any country that launched air attacks against them- no matter who it was allied with.

Which NATO country do you think could be sacrificed to call his ' bluff ' ?


Best forget this ' No Fly ' nonsense. This isn't Libya- and even that was a clusterfuck.

. The best strategy is likely to be to forgo challenging Russian freedom of action in the air over the frontlines. Instead, Ukraine will probably pursue a defence-in-depth strategy where the combination of fighter sorties and pop-up SAM threats can at least threaten to inflict a painful – albeit not prohibitive – toll on Russian deep-penetration strike sorties or airborne assault operations. However, Ukrainian troops on the frontlines will be left to rely on cover, concealment, MANPADS and Russian airspace deconfliction capacity to limit the practical effectiveness of Russian battlefield attack sorties.

The Ukrainian Air Force, and Ukrainian drones are defending Ukraine, which is a problem for Russian forces that are invading Ukraine. And, Ukrainian anti-aircraft are a danger to Russian air craft. Usually, if you want to invade a country, you want air supremacy, or at least air superiority.

And then there is the weapons systems being sent to Ukraine. If the Russians could prevent flights into Ukraine, they could prevent more weapons from being quickly deployed to Ukraine.

They are not always different. If the Russian troops lack the will to aggressively invade Ukraine, then Putin lacks the ability to do it.

Something is bogging down Russian forces.

Russia has not been relying on air power in this operation, for reasons that Western Experts have apparently not figured out.

For some reason, Russia has failed to effectively use their air, ground, and sea power. They are looking weak.

THey are looking cautious and methodical. It would sure help if we understood what Xi and Putin are trying to do, we cant judge how well they are doing it until we know.

I assume that Xi and Putin are two very different people, trying to do very different things, and having very different capabilities to do those two very different things.

But that is just my assumption.

I'm not aware of any Ukrainian air strikes causing the Russians problems- nor of any air defenses being effective. From where do you get these reports ?

And then there is the weapons systems being sent to Ukraine. If the Russians could prevent flights into Ukraine, they could prevent more weapons from being quickly deployed to Ukraine.

No, But Ukraine is claiming to have shot down 5 aircraft and 4 helicopters in one day.

Of course they lie constantly.
