Puerto Rico's debt-plagued power grid was on life support long before hurricanes

Joe Biden - "Time to put Trump in the bullseye."
Can this be true?. This article is from the LA Times but the TV people say it's all trump's fault.

sep 28 2017 Puerto Rico officials say it will likely be four to six months before power is fully restored across the U.S. territory of 3.5 million people. The island’s faltering electrical grid, now crippled by the twin blows of Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Irma, already was struggling to keep the lights on after a history of poor maintenance, poorly trained staff, allegations of corruption and crushing debt.

As recently as 2016, the island suffered a three-day, island-wide blackout as a result of a fire. A private energy consultant noted then that the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority “appears to be running on fumes, and … desperately requires an infusion of capital — monetary, human and intellectual — to restore a functional utility.”

Puerto Ricans in early 2016 were suffering power outages at rates four to five times higher than average U.S. customers, said the report from the Massachusetts-based Synapse Energy Economics.

And then came Maria.

The real problem in PR is the debt and since that's their own fault, nobody wants to help them. So they exaggerate the hurricane damage to get a bailout that will really be applied to the debt.

Oh, it's no exaggeration. It's about as bad as it can there from what I've seen in the pictures. It's just infuriating that they were not properly prepared with designated evac shelters so people could arrive prior to the storm. They could have turned the San Juan Hilton and other safe well-built hotels and the convention center into shelters stocked with cots, bedding, food and water like other states do. And have generators in place with fuel. As I said before, hopefully they'll get the women, kids, elderly and infirmed over here to stay with family & friends while the men stay behind to help with the rebuilding for the next 6 months or so.

??What if one of the men has five deferments & a bad foot but can't recall which one??

this can't be rebuilt. It needs to be torn out and replaced with hardened infrastructure.

This article is well worth reading. Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, or PREPA, is bankrupt, with at least $9 billion in debt.

the damage is so severe that simply repairing the electrical grid may not be an option. “We really should think in terms of rebuilding at this point,” says Ken Buell, director of Emergency Response and Recovery with the US Department of Energy.

The board notes your personal attack. Now address the issue. Why should americans bail out a territory that doesn't pay income tax? THINK

I was afraid you would take offense, but honestly there was no other way to ask than straight up...

It wasn't meant to offend, merely to inquire...

You have received your answer numerous times..

Regardless of the status of the land, THE PPL ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS.....
