Prop 203 Triumphs: Arizona 15th State to Pass Medical Marijuana
It was a real-nail biter but Prop 203, which legalizes medical marijuana in the state of Arizona, has passed. Arizona residents for Prop 203 were on the edge of their seats waiting for votes to be counted for more than a week. The prop trailed behind early but unexpectedly caught up on Saturday.
The medical marijuana prop won by 4, 341 votes. A recount would have occurred if a difference was within 200 votes.
Pima County, where Tucson is located, had an overwhelming YES vote for medical marijuana.
It appeared early on that Prop 203 would not pass, however, early drop-off and provisional ballots had not all been counted entirely until Saturday
Some may be surprised that the medical marijuana prop passed in a conservative state such as Arizona. The state is presently under scrutiny about discriminate immigration laws put in place and a controversial sheriff, Joe Arpaio.
Home growing is permitted for patients who live 25 miles or more from a dispensary.
