This is the shocking moment police shoot dead a double amputee as he tried to run away from officers on his stumps.

Anthony Lowe Jr, 36, was shot at least eight times by three cops at the Huntington Park Police Department in California, US, on Thursday after he tried to jump out his wheelchair.

According to police, the dad-of-two allegedly just stabbed a member of the public with a butcher knife and was trying to flee the scene.

Two officers chased him as video footage shows Mr Lowe standing outside his wheelchair next to cops holding a butcher knife in his hand.

He quickly tries to turn away from the officers and make a run for it.

How does anyone flee with just stumps for legs? He was a big guy who lost his legs in another police incident.

Yes, don't resist arrest and flee (with a butcher knife in your hand that you have already used to stab someone) and you won't get shot.

He was a clear and present danger to the public and the police.
