Police replace gifts stolen by thugs

A family still had a sweet Christmas after a stack of presents “From Santa” arrived to replace the ones stolen by thugs.


Melody Russell and her children Marissa, 7, and Marcus, 5, were robbed Monday as burglars stole their television, computer and the kids’ gifts under the tree.


Officers responded to the home at 6 p.m. Monday and found it ransacked. The only thing that remained from the childrens' gifts were pieces of wrapping paper the burglars left behind when they opened the presents themselves.


But the children were not without gifts for long as a group of about 20 officers and dispatchers from the police department worked quickly to get new gifts and deliver them the same day.


But the familys' Christmas still isn’t complete.


The Grinch-like burglars also stole the familys' 12-week-old dog, who is still missing.


Flynn said they are unsure if the dog was stolen or ran off during the incident but all officers in the section have been given a description. Officers were out Monday night with flashlights to look for her.

According to some, the police are evil and must all be destroyed. They don't sound so evil to me, they saved a families Christmas.

A fast-acting cop breathed life into an unconscious baby boy who was out cold inside a store in upper Manhattan, cops said on Monday.

Officer Thomas Dunn was racing to the Rainbow clothing store on West 181st. St. for a report of an unconscious and unresponsive child about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, cops said.

When he hopped out of his car, a firefighter was holding the 1-year-old boy limp in his arms, cops said.

Dunn -- who spent 10 years working as an EMT -- put the child on the trunk of the patrol car and gave him two chest compressions and two breaths, cops said.

The child immediately gasped for air and started to breathe again just as EMS workers arrived, cops said.

The child, who was with a baby-sitter, was taken to Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition and later released.
