I am an Australian and I have a query about the 5th Amendment....
Supposing I was an American citizen and I stole someone's car.
Then suppose that I was pulled over by the police and caught red-handed.
I am arrested and charged with Grand Theft Auto.
When I appear in court, I "plead the 5th."
Does this mean I will I cannot be found guilty and convicted ?
If so, isn't the Fifth Amendment something any criminal could use to escape justice ?
