Planned Parenthood and Abortion

I know, I know, if you want a fight put those words in the subject line. I've said before I am pro-choice. I just don't think it's the government's place to decide for people on this issue. But that's neither here nor there. I remember the '90's when the Clinton's said abortion should be safe, legal and rare. Contrast that comment to what PP tweeted today:

Planned Parenthood @PPact Imagine "life in a magical land where abortions and birth control are free and plentiful" This place exists. http://ppact.io/1Nj68LW

I'm curious what others who are pro-choice think of PP's statement. Do you like the idea of plentiful abortions? Do you think PP is doing this to troll pro-life folks or are they just tone deaf? I saw this re-tweeted by Ron Fournier of NationalJournal who is pro-choice but asked when did abortions become magical? Several of the follow up tweets were by people who said they were pro-choice but didn't like the language as well.

For me personally I'm not going to change my position on this issue because of something PP said but I'm definitely not a fan of the statement nor do I think it helps the organization.

I don't see how that links to PP. It's the author's title and she's talking about the NHS in England. There is no mention of PP in the article you linked.

I quoted the tweet from PP. Do you and Rana not understand how Twitter works? (Not saying that in a bad way just asking for clarification)

I only clicked on your link in the OP and it came from a site called fusion.net, no mention of PP. I found it on Twitter after we started talking about it.

In any case the article still references getting birth control and abortion in the UK as opposed to in the US and how politicized it is over here.

"As a feminist and an American citizen, I’ve always been infuriated by conservative lawmakers’ fixation on legislating my vagina. Now, as a British citizen who has spent the last five years getting acquainted with this nation’s government-funded National Health Service (NHS), I’m baffled by it, too. Having lived in a country where reproductive health care—including abortions—is free, accessible, and far less politicized, it’s never been clearer to me just how regressive the U.S really is."

My point in posting this was PP's comment in its tweet: Imagine "life in a magical land where abortions and birth control are free and plentiful" This place exists.

I know you are pro-choice. When you hear abortions are plentiful does it give you extra excitement? Does more abortions occurring make a strong statement in the feminist world? (I'm not trying to be an ass asking those questions. I'm asking sincerely since that seems to be the position PP is taking.)

You are trying to be an ass, sorry cawacko, those are ass holish questions. They are questions that troll. Do you really think christiefan gets excited about abortions? or that feminists think more abortions is a strong statement?

I would assume she wouldn't get excited but thought it worth asking. As far as feminists in general I actually don't know. Not to say PP speaks for all feminists but they clearly think more abortions is a good thing.

Yes you both get excited about abortions because you are both afraid of black babies growing up and robbing you. The more the better for you

Let's clarify, are you criticizing PP for posting the title Rosie J. Spinks gave to her article?

I don't think PP posted the article to excite people but to inform that contraception and abortion isn't politicized everywhere like it is here. In fact most of the article is about birth control, not abortion.

I get no joy from hearing that abortions are plentiful even though they've been dropping steadily in almost every state, and have said from the beginning that both parties should use birth control faithfully if they're having sex and don't want a pregnancy. BOTH parties.

Where are you getting that they think more abortions is a good thing?

I think it's a case of choosing words poorly. I agree that "plentiful" abortions shouldn't be ideal, but the ABILITY to get an abortion if desired should be plentiful. As in, there should be plentiful access to reproductive health care.

This could be what they were getting at, but trying to convey it in 140 characters or less might have been a bad idea.

Translation: they accidentally spoke the truth

Yes.
