"It is a belief that helped drive a historic rise in U.S. firearms sales and first-time gun owners during the COVID-19 pandemic: Having a handgun at home for personal protection will make you safer

"Groundbreaking new research conducted over a 12-year period shows that the opposite is true"

"Between October 2004 and the end of 2016, adults in the state who didn’t own a gun but took up residence with someone who did were much more likely to die a violent death than people in households without a handgun, researchers from Stanford University found"

"Those who lived with a handgun owner were almost twice as likely to die by homicide as their neighbors without guns, the researchers found. More specifically, adults who lived with the owner of a handgun were almost three times more likely to be killed with a firearm than in households where no handguns were present."

Is it any wonder that the NRA, ie gun manufacturers, with the aid of the GOP, have bitterly fought against any research being done on guns and gun deaths? Common sense, a gun in the house drastically increases your chances of becoming a victim of that gun, not the burglar or home invader, but rather by someone you know

But the right's solution to gun violence in America, again inbred by the gun manufactures' propaganda, is that more houses should have guns, the more guns, the safer one is, which has been proven a lie

IDIOTIC PREMISE.

Facts, LMAO, a study sponsored for a desired outcome. The only people more likely to die are BLM and Anitifa when they enter a house uninvited. Damn liberal idiots

Leftists will lie, cheat, and steal to disarm Americans, because they know they cannot go forward with their authoritarian tyrannical agenda until they do.

It also increases the odds of a child finding it and accidentally hurting himself or someone else. Or using it to commit suicide. I personally knew two young people -- both teens and friends of my own kids -- who did so.

Wrong, but then you usually are.

Actually, that's true.

"Table 11. Death rates for 113 selected causes by age: United States, 2000 - Con.
[Rates per 100,000 population in specified group. Populations used for computing death rates are postcensal estimates based on the 1990 census, estimated as of July 1, 2000; see Technical notes] Cause of death (Based on the Tenth "

The table as it looks does not work here. Table 11.

"Nearly 2,400 children and adolescents aged 5-18 died by suicide in the United States in 2018, making suicide the second leading cause of death in this age group.1 Suicide rates among children and adolescents have increased by over 80% over the past decade in the U.S. Of those deaths, about 40% involved firearms. Suicide rates among children and adolescents who live in homes with guns are four times higher than among those in homes without guns. "
