nov 15 2022Hopes for a red wave of Republican victories on Election Day were shattered by the 28% advantage that voters in the 18-29 age group delivered to Democratic candidates.

Legions of young voters were energized to support Democrats by Biden’s Aug. 24 announcement that he was forgiving up to $20,000 of student debt per person, which would cost taxpayers $400 billion-plus.

While the votes that 20-somethings delivered last Tuesday are irrevocable, Biden’s student debt relief is contingent on federal court approval. And his bailout is being shot to pieces in courtrooms across the nation.

Two days after the election, federal judge Mark Pittman struck down the bailout as an unconstitutional decree: “In this country, we are not ruled by an all-powerful executive with a pen and a phone. Instead, we are ruled by a Constitution that provides for three distinct and independent branches of government.” Pittman rejected the “emergency” basis of the order in part because Biden had proclaimed on “60 Minutes” that “the pandemic is over.”

Last Friday, the Biden administration announced that it was temporarily closing the window for individuals to apply for student-loan forgiveness. Twenty-six million applications had already been received but their fate is in legal limbo.

But on Monday afternoon, a federal appeals court in St. Louis unanimously voted to impose a nationwide “injunction considering the irreversible impact the Secretary’s debt forgiveness action would have” on “Americans who pay taxes to finance the government.”

Some activists believe Biden intentionally swindled young voters with a bait-and-switch scheme. Briahna Joy Gray, who was the press secretary for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, asked, “Did Biden RIG student debt forgiveness to fail, just to help him in midterms?” She explained on Twitter: “They used the promise of student debt cancellation to induce young voter turn out — knowing it wasn’t going anywhere [because] they relied on faulty legal authority. Hard to convince me the Biden admin didn’t do this intentionally.”

Fordham law professor Jed Shugerman derided Biden’s plan as a “legal mess” that could lose 9-0 at the Supreme Court. Other court challenges will likely deliver further floggings to the bailout.

I have watched the Seattle City Council do things that they knew were illegal for political reasons, knowing that it would likely take the courts a year or more to work.

Gaming the system this is called.

And treason.
 
The reason we have a student loan problem is that we don't have free college like civilized nations do.
Expensive private universities will always have their place for the elite, but public education needs to be available to everybody.

Do you think Sweden and Denmark have clowns like TDAK running around freely on their streets?
If so, I never saw them.
Educated nations throw a net over people like that and tuck them away.
That's what I endorse--not taking a bat to them which is more like I might do.

You can play Text like a child. I often feel sorry for him. .6 percent of Americans identify as Transexual. So Text is not alone but practically is.

You claim to live in Olympia, 40 min south of Seattle. What do you know or care about the Seattle City Council?

Free college might be ok if it was STEM only. Useful stuff. But then it would 10% female and 0% black and we can't have that.

This is likely more lying from you as you should know that a lot of people who live in Oly work in Seattle, for instance my wife. I also have a kid who lives in Seattle, I used to have two till MicroSoft daughter had enough and moved to Maple Valley. Also I used to spend a lot of time in Seattle bars and restaurants and events, but I have not stepped foot into the city for almost exactly three years. And also I am a very curious person who pays attention to what is going on. And also the decay of Seattle always gets to Olympia eventually, so it is good to know what is happening in Seattle.

Also, I gave up lying years ago....you should try it.

Trump's wall was never built because it was a massively expensive boondoggle that would not have accomplished its stated purpose.

What parts of it were built, have people climbing over it and sitting on top of it.

It was never meant to be anything other than a tool to sucker right-wing bigots and xenophobes into voting for Trump.

I agree. I never supported the wall. What needs to be done is take away the freebies and job opportunities. Then the illegals will leave on their own.

Certain American industries need the labor they provide.

Not long ago, there was such a construction boom in this country, contractors couldn't fill many of their open positions because everyone was employed somewhere. And because of the crackdown on illegal immigrants, there was no pool of additional labor to draw from.

The same thing happened in the agricultural industry. There were fruit growers who had to sacrifice an entire crop of one fruit, just so they could get the other one harvested.

The real solution is a well regulated and controlled guest worker pass system.

But it won't happen because the Republican Party would rather have the political issue to beat like a drum rather than a solution.
