Palin-Beck 2012? Sarah says maybe
She'll never be U.S. president, but her star power ought to scare the hell out of her charisma-free GOP rivals Video

Salon/DG StrongFirst, let me apologize for telling you all I had Palin fatigue on Monday, and then following up by writing about Palin the next two days. I kept one promise; I've kept the term Palinpalooza out of our news coverage.

But the Palin assault keeps getting more surreal, and more intriguing. Wednesday night came the news that Palin wouldn't rule out the idea of Fox News host (and professional paranoid) Glenn Beck as a possible 2012 running mate.

Newsmax reporter David Patten says Palin "chuckled" when he broached the idea, but then gave Beck his props:

"I can envision a couple of different combinations, if ever I were to be in a position to really even seriously consider running for anything in the future, and I'm not there yet," Palin told Newsmax. "But Glenn Beck I have great respect for. He's a hoot. He gets his message across in such a clever way. And he's so bold — I have to respect that. He calls it like he sees it, and he's very, very, very effective."

Once again, I agree with Palin: Beck is indeed a "hoot" and he's very, very, very effective, at lying about President Obama and whipping his paranoid base into a deluded frenzy. So what is she doing: trying to sell books to that same base -- a nice potential book market but a sliver of the electorate -- or genuinely charting her 2012 course?

Judging by Palin's erratic behavior on this book tour, and her erratic handle on the truth within the book, it's honestly hard to tell. I think, as I said Monday, she is first and foremost about Sarah Palin Inc., becoming rich and powerful, but that may well be a path to Sarah Palin 2012. I will say it again: She will never be our president. But I can't rule out her being the 2012 Republican nominee.

The Reagan landslide over Mondale would be nothing compared to how bad Obama would kick the crap out of that ticket.

That's just lame reporting. It doesn't take but a modicum of common sense to realize while she's kissing his ass she's not at all implying he would be a potential VP candidate.

Shh... I wanted to see how excited they'd get!

As much as I like Palin but there is no way this will fly. It would be a gift to the democrats the way the majority of the country and especially the media feels about Beck.....and Palin for that matter.

Palin could put God on her ticket and still not be likely win the Rep primary.

If by some miracle she were to win the Rep nomination... I will guarantee one thing. A viable third party WILL form at that point.

I think you are correct here, definitely on your first point. Your second point I would slightly disagree with the "viable" part. I think after the Palin-mania died down the republicans would be back to buisiness as usual. As much as I would love to see a "viable" third (or fourth or fifth) party, I don't think it will ever happen. I would love to see elections where the person ran for who he really was instead of as a "D" or an "R."

I think if Palin were to win the primary, a third party would spring up to challenge her and Obama. The general population is growing quite tired of the two parties. All we need is a spark and the fire will rage.

Now if Obama suddenly reverses course and begins to accomplish things that will lead our economy out of this mess, then that would mitigate the ability of a third party as moderates would likely stay with Obama. If however the Dems continue down their current path AND Palin is the Rep candidate... I believe that third party will form quickly and garner the moderates from both parties.

Just my opinion... I could be wrong.

No matter SF....she won't be the candidate. I don't think she'll even run. Of course I could be wrong too.

If Palin picks a good conservative who's got plenty congressional experience she could beat Obama if cons are right and he drives us into a serious double dip.

While I think we are likely to see the double dip at this point, it will not be due entirely to Obama. Though if he would use the stimulus money properly he could help to prevent what is coming. If they use the remaining money as they did the first batch... then double dip... here we come. The mess he did not create, but if his 'solutions' do not help to stop it, then he will suffer at the polls. I think 2010 will be rough for Dems, but by 2012 things should be looking better.

I dont think she will either. She stands to gain far more if she stays away from running. I think she has realized this and that is why she stepped down in AK.

Yep, I expect her to wind up being some political commentator somewhere. I just don't know if she'll work for Fox or NBC. Reckon she'll do a team up show with Olberman ;)?

good grief, Palin/Beck...you people will latch on to anything about Palin...lol

Joan Walsh writes like a friggen junior high school student..

notice the Palin is erratic, she clucks and Beck lies, is paranoid, is deluded...

give us a break already..

That would be sweet. I heard Stephanie miller joke that democrats should mimic Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” primary antics, and assuming Obama doesn’t have a primary challenger, every democrat should vote for Palin on the republican ticket in the 2012 GOP primaries.

I don’t remember if Cali has open or closed primaries, but I’d be willing to register republican temporarily to vote for the bulldog with lipstick.

I think he intentionally sceduled the stimulus mostly next year to get him re-elected.

I wonder if Palin will outsell Aggassi's book.
