Oracle and the End of Programming As We Know It

Oracle and Larry Ellison can go fuck themselves. Their database product sucks horse balls (the lowest point of my SysAdmin career was being a backup Oracle DBA). They aren't innovative enough to design their own products, so instead they swallow up smaller companies and ruin their products, too. I hate Oracle with all my heart.

I sincerely hope that they lose the case. It is a very bizarre world we are living in where giant corporations buy up patents wholesale with the express intention of shaking down the competition. It's the tech world's version of a protection racket.

It's all very sad, rather than innovating, many of the giant corporations are more concerned with unleashing their avaricious lawyers against the other side's lawyers.

it is the bean counter mba types that came up with the idea that research costs too much and the roi takes too long so they decided that licensing is better and preying on other companies is better than doing original work

many years ago when i had just started as a programmer, i was advised to become a software patent lawyer as it would pay better

but i did not as programming was much more fun

Oracle tried to pull the same stunt with Open Office.
