Bush never should have gotten 2 terms. That guy was in WAY over his head, started an unnecessary war that took many of our resources & most of his attention, and let everything else go by the wayside.

He was a disaster, in every aspect of that word. Blame him 3 years later? I'll be blaming him 30 years later. I have always said that we'll be able to trace the beginnings of our downfall as a superpower to his years in office.

wow...so just like kenneth bush is responsible for everything and obama is responsible only for the good that happens??? your post says nothing different than that and heavily implies that.

bush didn't let everything else go by the way side. iraq started off good but bush screwed it up. kerry likely would have been no better. your choices in 04 would not good. kerry wasn't good and neither was bush. our downfall as a super power started BEFORE bush got in office. you obviously are clueless to china....only a far left hack would believe otherwise. to blame one president for an entire country's downfall is plain ludicrious. tell me...what has obama done to strengthen our world power?

I stopped reading at "Iraq started off good." Iraq was a disaster of epic proportions, from day 1 - one of the worst foreign policy decisions in history.

You're blind as only a hack can be. Bush was a terrible mistake; never would have gotten near the presidency if not for his last name. Probably wouldn't have even made it to mayor.

Yet, for some reason, this is all I hear from the right. "This mess is Obama's fault." I don't know if you've ever said it, but even the new guy has seen enough people throw that out there to realize that you've seen your own party do it too.

I tend to agree about Iraq. Having been there I feel like I have a little more knowledge than the casual American. Terrible choice. Supposedly less than 5% of the insurgents during the first 4 years were Iraqi. I have to admit though, even I fell for the WMD ploy. I was a young dumb soldier then, but I ate it up. As for Bush being mayor, I don't know. As a product of the Texas education system, I can tell you for certain that he was a terrible Governor. Ann Richards (his predecessor) was so much better for my state.

I thought it was Reagan and conservatism that destroyed America? To say our problem only started in 2001 gives Reagan a pass. Are you sure you meant to do that?

Sometimes cartoons are the last resort for one to get their point across.

Obama has had to deal with Bush's blunders, from unnecessary wars to tax cuts. If there had been no tax cuts they wouldn't be a focal point now. The outrageous sums of money spent on wars wouldn't be a consideration now, either. The debt ceiling talks would have taken a completely different route.

Let's hope Obama and the Dems clean up in the '12 election so they can start realizing true savings by amalgamating health care (Medicaid, Medicare and ObamaCare) and by withdrawing troops from the Middle East. Just those two things would make a huge dent in the deficit AND provide for the citizens. If folks would get the Repubs out of the way change would happen.

both sides have people that only believe their side is correct. our current situation is not all obama's fault. one person cannot control the entire destiny and economy of this country. i'm tired of the partisan politics where people like onceler and kenneth blame bush for everything and ignore anything from the left. are you saying you never hear the same things from the left? you just saw it in this thread with onceler and kenneth, yet you felt compelled to only comment about the right. is there a reason for that?

onceler could not answer what obama has done to strengthen our world power because he isn't interested in truth. do you have examples? i've seen obama want to hand more power to the UN. more power to groups like NATO when fighting lybia instead of taking the lead. what has obama done to strengthen us? he has expanded out debt to ridiculous levels. he hasn't reached across the aisle and united us like people or he claimed. he has been divisive. bush was not perfect and definitely gets some blame, but to give him all the blame is as dumb as blaming only obama. surely you agree.

you do realize obama expanded afghanistan...iraq was pretty much wrapped up by the time he entered office....and obama extended bush tax cuts....the money spent on his failed stimulous is about the same as the wars for 10 years. but that doesn't bother....

I disagree. In 30 years Iraq will be regarded as one of the greatest executions of foreign policy in history.

why did bush screw up so badly after we started? he was against the surge....etc...

and you may be right, onceler may be right...but your beliefs in this regard make neither of you a hack.

I do agree that all Americans have an equal share for the problems we are in. For the particular problem RIGHT NOW, the pending default, I lay at the feet of the Tea Party. In my opinion you shouldn't play politics with something that could irrevocably raise interest rates for all Americans. That will impede growth indefinitely. To me the Dems have already moved to the center by agreeing to cut spending. The Tea Party hasn't moved at all. I would prefer no solution right now. Do nothing, except raise the debt ceiling, then everyone can act like petulant children until the next election and let America choose.

I have, on occasion, defended Bush. He never made it easy for me, but I respected his position as my Commander and Chief and as my President. Many Democrats forgot that.

what is the problem "right now" and how is the so called tea party responsible?

what is the problem "right now" and how is the so called tea party responsible?

Defining a few points:
1. The debt ceiling needs to be raised by August 2 or the US defaults.
2. The debt ceiling being raised has nothing to do with tax cuts or expenditures. I say this, because even if we pass a conservative bill, a Tea Party bill, a Democrat bill, or no bill, we still have to raise the debt ceiling or we default.
3. Programs need reform. This includes many entitlement and tax programs.

A few months ago, Tea Party members in the House started claiming that they would refuse to raise the debt ceiling unless government spending was cut. This handicapped Republicans, such as Boehner, since without the Tea Party members signing on to raise the debt ceiling via a general Republican plan, he is forced to try to appease them. Instead of playing politics and moving towards the center, the Tea Party proposed and passed a bill they knew the President could not sign onto. The rest of the Republican Party in the House had to tag along or be targetted by Tea Party affiliated organizations (like several already have) as closet liberals or RINO's. Any bill that is passed by either House that cannot be passed by the other or by the President is wasting time. I think by catering to the Tea Party, the Republicans have screwed themselves. They could have used this moment to win both Houses and the White House in 2012, with many gains in the Tea Party, by just saying "Obama you are wrong, but you are holding the country hostage with your wasteful spending and the debt ceiling, therefore in the interest of our country, here is the Republican plan." Then offered a reasonable plan. Instead, the Tea Party stance has become "Fuck it. Fuck you. Liberals are un-American. Let the country default." Wrong answer. Now, I fear that REGARDLESS of the outcome, Obama can spin it to make it look like he is the victor and the Tea Party fucked everyone. You, nor many of the right-wing, may see it this way, but for those of us in the middle it will be pretty convincing. You need to remember that policies that attract only extreme left wing people, like Obamacare, make people vote Republican, while letting the country default to prove a point, like what the Tea Party is doing now, will make people vote Democrat. As long as their rhetoric doesn't change, the Tea Party won't lose its base. It might exclude the rest of Republicans and the people that don't align with a party, thus losing the elections, if they aren't careful.
