Oil Rig Explodes off LA Coast

Wow, outstanding…. thanks for the comedic blast from the past. :hand:

Here, we can see how even though it was routinely explained to wingnuts that natural seepage is too diffuse and dispersed to be of any significant environmental concern, and yet they repeatedly – and for dozens of posts - made the hilarious assertions that seepage is some kind of measurable problem, and that drilling would somehow “solve” the horrors of seepage.

I’m putting “seepage-gate’ up on a par with Climate Gate as prima facia evidence of how easily misinformed and duped wingnuts are on all matters scientific and technical. Will the wingnut comedy follies ever cease?? One hopes not!

i think the question we need to ask is:

what is the overall pollution for natural seepage compared to oil production leaks over a long period of time....

i've seen studies that show natural seepage is far greater, but i'm sure cypress will immediately pounce that they are not peer reviewed...

so, since you guys are making the claim, please provide a study that you approve that shows overall pollution from natural seepage as compared to oil production includeing leaks....
I'd like to note, that if you actually read this without partisan hack blinders on, he never compared seepage to the gusher in the gulf. He read studies that compared production to seepage, not disasters to seepage....

C minus for spin, Professor.

I worked in the oil industry for a decade, I am very familiar with petroleum science, and I have a robust understanding of ocean systems and ecology.

Any one who even remotely suggested that natural seeps are any sort of measurable or significant pollution problem doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.

And the fact that this seepage shit was brought up as a defense of Drill Baby Drill, and that it was brought up (oddly enough) by message board wingnuts exactly on the heels of rightwing talk radio hosts flogging the seepage nonsense, is hilarious. Seepage gate was obviously fueled by the wingnutosphere. Seepage gate wasn’t some innocent and benign theoretical thought exercise that just blossomed out of nowhere, bro.

bottom line: Anyone who even brought up seepage as a “problem” or as a defense of drill baby drill is a fucking moron.

Trying to move those goal posts now? Previously, in another thread, they accused the man of saying that the spill was no more than the seepage. Hence my point. He didn't say that there at all, he said he read studies that said that production caused about as much as the seepage...

The bottom line is, what they say he "said" wasn't what they wound up quoting.

Then you come along and either in ignorance of the other thread or because you are such an apologist say something inane while desperately trying to cover the turd...
