“Occupy Wall Street” Protesters Share One Common Trait: Almost All Are White

Though a few representatives of minority groups have appeared among the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters in New York City, photos and videos of the left-wing mini-throngs indicate they suffer from a serious lack of diversity. And the protesters themselves told The Daily Caller on Tuesday that they are conscious of the issue, if not the inconsistency it demonstrates.

A 40-photo Washington Post slideshow showing hundreds of angry protesters in New York and other cities includes no more than 15 clearly identifiable minority protesters, and just six African-Americans. The rest of the protesters shown are white, and most are male.

In 26 photos from San Francisco and Chicago gatherings posted on OccupyTogether.org, only one person from a minority group is clearly visible, and it’s unclear whether he is a protester or a bystander.

Minority groups are similarly underrepresented in photos and videos posted on OccupyWallSt.org, the self-described “unofficial de facto online resource for the ongoing protests happening on Wall Street.”

Even the “unofficial” organizers of the protest events admit this is — or at least appears to be — problematic.

Now we know what the 99% stands for . . . 99% white.

I was watching "The Departed" again the other night, and I couldn't help but notice the lack of minority characters in that, as well...

That's because the movie is based in Boston. It doesn't get much whiter (or racist, or worse weather, or uglier woman, or worse accents) than Boston.

Yeah; I spent some time there. I remember one time when a rookie Celtics player (black) was house-hunting in an affluent neighborhood. One of the residents called the cops, and they actually tackled him to the ground.

"Departed" is a killer flick, though.

There are arrests everyday during the NY protests, and there have been incidents of violence. No, no, don't get excited righty scum! No "hippies" got violent. A pig cop walked up to a group of women who were trapped and peacefully standing behind a barricade and maced them. Yes, I know that brought a big smile to your face.

Anyway, anyone who wasn't a complete idiot, a vicious racist, or as is the case with nearly every righty posting on this board, both, would know that false arrests and most alarmingly, police violence, is endemic against the black population in this country.

It's borderline retarded to pretend to wonder why blacks would be more likely to avoid going to these protests. The people who are going, even though most of them enjoy white privilege with law enforcement, are taking a big risk. For any black protester, the risk is astronomical.

The Departed is one of my favorite movies. Awesome soundtrack too.

yeah, not every day you get to enjoy a movie in which Matt Damon and Leo get capped. Brings a sense of pleasure. :)

seriously though... that was a great flick

It is a great movie. The City obviously has an amazing history but I never cared for the sports teams or the people and being sent there for 9 months for work in 2008 was not a lot of fun. The City does have a long history of racial tensions. Kind of interesting reading some black people from Boston saying during the '80's they were Lakers fans because the Lakers were dubbed the 'black' team while the Celtics the 'white' team.

Anyhow random rant on my part but I do not like that City at all.

LOL. Dayum. I can't imagine the reporting. I hope he owned their cop cars after the lawsuit.

I don't believe I've ever seen "Departed".

You do want to see the departed.

The only thing that sucks is how bad the accents of some of the Boston natives sound.

It was pretty bad. There was a lot of discussion about which was worse - a resident calling the cops simply because there was a black guy driving around the neighborhood, or the cops tackling him based on nothing.

You really have to see the Departed, if you like movies at all...

There are no similar racial tensions across the river in Cambridge so it was completely unreasonable for a black Harvard professor to suspect racism when he was arrested for entering his own home.

Right?
