However, most of your Liberals would probably be viewed as rather conservative over here, and our conservatives, give or take a few mentalists, would likely identify more with the Democrats, or perhaps the Libertarians.

I don't know about that. As I recall Tony Blair wasn't afraid to defend his nation, and he's liberal. Our liberals here don't want to offend anyone, especially murderous dictators that provide free health care to their citizens.
