Slavery was an integral part in the economic support of the Confederacy. To try and diminish, justify, trivialize, minimalize, sidebar this fact is to be dishonest with regards to history. People trying to separate slavery from the confederacy are deluding themselves...much as any German that praises the advancements of German society under the Nazis without acknowledging the Holocaust, or South Africans patting themselves on the back without acknowledging partheid.

Here's the deal, bunky....do your homework and see what main States were shipping in, trading, selling slaves as a commodity during the US slavery eras. Actually, only 2% of the Southern population owned slaves. Not a single Confederate soldier ever owned a slave. Yes, the Southern economy, as well as the American economy was tied to King Cotton! It was our leading export crop as a nation. This was a large part of the reason slavery existed in the first place, and it was set into American law by US courts and US politicians, NOT THE CONFEDERATE STATES! If you want to "BLAME" slavery on someone, you must go to the source, the people who made slavery legal in America for a century before the CSA was even thought of.

By 1860 slaves made up 49% of the lower South, 29% of the Upper South and 15% of border Southern States population. In Mississippi & S. Carolina 1/2 of all families owned slaves.
No one is trying to "trivialize" slavery, it was horrible and despicable, but being totally dishonest about why it existed and who advocated for it, is not going to make it any less horrible.
