Obama voters defecting for GOP

While the Reps certainly were driving the car when it went into the ditch, the Dems were in the passenger seat asking them if they wanted another shot of whiskey. Both parties put us in this ditch and neither is doing what is necessary to get us out.
Hard to argue against your point. The problem is, is what are we going to do about it?

Lock and load... time to hunt career politicians... send them packing

NOTE: the following are my opinions and should be taken as such. This disclaimer is for the morons of the board.... Dixie, Cypress, Yurt

We need to get over the idea of being either a Rep or a Dem. Get away from the two party system that has screwed us for 50 years (yes, easier said than done)

We need to establish term limits

We need to drastically simplify the tax code. 70,000 pages to one. It can be done and needs to be done. The complex nature of our current system creates an environment where politicians can be bribed. Our current system is regressive and corrupt. A flat tax with standard deduction eliminates that.

We need to quit calling bribery 'lobbying'

We need to quit calling money 'free speech' or the billionaires (Soros, Murdoch etc..), corporations and unions/PACs will continue to dominate our elections. Take free air time for the politicians and give them a limited number of spots. The larger the number of people being represented, the more spots for that political office. The Reps of the House.... get your ass out and meet the constituents. Put your policy positions on the web and hard copies of them at local libraries where those without internet access can read them. Obviously mailings etc... can also be done.

Glass Steagall must be put back in place.

The Uptick rule needs to be put back immediately.

We need an energy policy that gets rid of the nuts from both extremes. Nat gas is a cleaner burn that oil. We have it in abundance. We have the tech to convert autos from gasoline to nat gas. Transportation accounts for about 70% of our oil consumption as a nation. Build the infrastructure to support nat gas vehicles. Make it mandatory within three years.... for all gas stations to provide nat gas availability, for all auto producers to produce nat gas vehicles and for consumers to have their autos converted to nat gas usage.

In addition, expand the sensible biofuels such as algae based: which does not consume our grain, which helps clean the environment (algae consumes toxins from the air), and the algae bi-product (other than oil) is a great carb food source for livestock (which further decreases the usage of our grain). See Solix biofuels (one among many) http://www.solixbiofuels.com/

Furthermore, take all money currently going to 'studies' on 'how much man is at fault' and pump it into real projects that will diminish our carbon impact on the planet. ie.... Envirofit... take their conversion kits (whose technology is FREE to anyone who wants to use it) and convert all the two stroke engines (roughly 100 million on the planet). Conversion costs are roughly $300, so for $30B all could be converted. This should be paid for by the US, EU and China as most usage of two strokes (outside of China) are in third world countries that cannot afford the conversion.... and we all benefit from the reduction in fuel use and reduction in pollution.

Learn more about Envirofit as their cook stoves are also a wise investment http://www.envirofit.org/

Let your Reps and Senators know about the solutions above... Obviously these are local to me... I am sure there are many other worthwhile endeavors throughout the country.

I can't really disagree with that.

This is why the "money is speech" crowd is so wrong. I have no doubt that every new legislator who will head to DC in January will be determined to "change things" and pass the laws they feel will get America "back on track." Within 6 months to a year, they'll realize how much they need corporate money and support to get re-elected, and every idealistic intention they had will be gone.

"What is necessary to get us out" basically flies in the face of what the corporations, unions & military wants, so it isn't what we'll get, anytime soon.

Imagine this. Reasonable discussion from three folks whom I consider to be among some of the more reasonable posters on here. I can (and often do) disagree with these guys but we are usually able to have good discussions. Great job guys. Quite refreshing to see something besides trolling. And Darla....LOL at the oil comment.

As to the idea presented by SF....I agree 100%. I also agree wholeheartedly with Oncelor about the money. I am coming more and more to the conclusion that the money required to be elected/re-elected is very bad for politics....and our nation.

Would that be so wrong?
On many levels!! The glare from SF's pasty white ass would be enough to blind half the audience and I know it may be sexist as hell for me to say so but some people are just not meant to oil wrestle, at least not in public....Oncie be one of them!!

I mean wouldn't you rather watch Grind oil wrestle Skidmark? That woudln't be nearly as disturbing as SF vs Oncie.

I've all ready voted by absentee ballot and I thought about voting out incumbants but in quite a few cases that wasn't a viable option as the person running against the incumbant was either an idiot or just not as well qualified as the incumbent. In legislative races you also have to be carefull not to through out the baby with the bathwater by voting against an incumbent solely for being an incumbent.

Having said that my congressional rep is pretty much the stereotype of a greasy slimeball hack. How he keeps getting re-elected is beyond me. I voted against him.

It is. Read both Washington's and Eisenhowers farewell address. They both warn about three things. Foreign entanglements, the aristocracy of money and the military industrial complex. It's become pretty obvious that big money has subverted our political process. This is not good for our Repeblic.

If the founders had any idea how far it would all go, to get to the point we're at, they would have written very detailed safeguards into the Constitution, because the effect of big money has completely undermined democracy at this point.

It's not the first time this has happened in our history. Money subverted our political process in the late 19th century as well. I mean what can you expect when only about half the electorate votes on Presidential cycles and even less on off year elections and of those who do vote about half of them get their information from Fox News and MSNBC.

It's a case of Bread and Circus. As long as most of the public has a job and can make mortgage payments and can drink beer and watch football and NASCAR on weekend, then they really don't give a rats ass about the political process. That is, until the house of cards falls down on top of them.
