STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A Port Richmond man carrying his groceries was pummeled by a group yelling anti-Mexican epithets as he walked on Richmond Terrace, in what police say is the fifth bias attack in the borough over the past three months.
Police said the 30-year-old Hispanic man was set upon shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday near Treadwell Avenue by a group of male and female blacks who taunted him, punched him in the face and fled.
The man, whom police did not identify, was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, where he was treated for facial swelling and released.
No arrests had been made as of last night, and police are continuing the investigation into the attack, which has been classified as a bias crime.
