He should not have weighed in on an issue he himself admitted he does not know about.
Maybe a more fair answer would have been, I dont know the specifics of this situation, but I am against racial profiling and if thats what happened, I am against it.
agreed... He is an idiot for taking sides on this issue, when he clearly wasnt there and this is clearly a he said/he said situation between the cops and the professor. I do note that if this was racially motivated on the part of the white cop, why did the black cop not do anything to stop it?
I dont know the facts of the situation, but people should not be arrested for being rude, and if thats what happened, thats uncool.
I agree the president should never have weighed in on a specific situation that he did not know the detales of.
He did say he and the Professor are friends.
I disagree, if you are being belligerent towards a cop that is just doing his/her job, you should get arrested for disorderly conduct. In this particular case, because it was at the guys house, I personally would not have arrested him, no matter how much of an ass he was allegedly being.
That said, this was an interesting article...

That was a bad move on Obama's part. My jaw dropped when he made those comments, especially when he said that the Cambridge police acted stupidly.

Being rude to a cop is not a crime.
The cop was there because one of his neighbors called and reported someone trying to break-in.
Yes, the fact that it was an older man with a cane might have been a clue, but the cop is required to make sure there is no crime being committed.
If the cop received a call reporting a potential burglary, he would have to investigate. And if he were told that the man "breaking in" was in fact the homeowner, the cop would be required to verify that info.
Being rude is not illegal. But being belligerent and refusing to present ID (at least in most states) would result in an arrest.
Obama should not have made the comment he did.
True, but I think he would have been damned if he did and damned if he didn't.
It's just another pretend issue the right will use to beat him up over.
I agree Obama should not have made the comment. Refusing to present an ID in your own home is not a crime.

The cop was a racist mutha that needs a little time off without pay.
Obama did exactly what he should have. I'd have blasted that cracker worse.
If there was a witness reporting a burglary, the cop would have needed to see ID before leaving.
If your home was being broken into while you were on vacation, and a neighbor called the cops, would you want the burglar to be able to say "I live here" and the cops just walk away?
I know in Alabama if a law enforcement office asks you for ID you are required to present it.
