LIMA, Peru (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton repeated on Tuesday her statement taking sole responsibility for security at all of America's diplomatic missions, an attempt to clear a political obstacle for her boss, President Barack Obama ahead of his second debate with Republican Mitt Romney.

"I take responsibility," Clinton said in a written statement. "I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people all over the world (at) 275 posts."

She would not answer questions on her statement.

With only weeks before the presidential election, outrage has crystallized around Vice President Joe Biden's claim in last week's debate with Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan that "we weren't told" about requests for extra security at the consulate where assailants killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

Why aren't they both responsible? I mean, Clinton saying she's responsible doesn't take responsibility away from the President.

actually, obama ultimately is. he delegated his charge to her. as the president, he is absolutely in charge of his cabinet. that is the price you pay for being the CEO.

Obama 2010: ‘Ultimately the buck stops with me’ on security issues

http://washingtonexaminer.com/obama...ps-with-me-on-security-issues/article/2510855

The State Department did not send person after person out to blame the attacks on a frickin' movie to attempt to distract from the fact that it is flat untrue that Al Qaeda in "incapable of any large attacks"...

Seriously, there is zero purpose in her saying the buck stops at the State Department, yeah, it is her charge but it doesn't somehow absolve the President from his responsibility, at least not for the attempt at distraction and then the later further obfuscation...

"That's really what we thought!"

Geebus, I was here that very day telling you this was BS, that this attack had nothing to do with the stupid movie trailer...

has he taken responsibility? has he stepped up and said the buck stops here, i was responsible?

tell me, who is ultimately responsible, the executive or his subordinate?

Has he denied responsibility? I don't know that he has been asked about it publicly. I assumed his press secretary has been asked about it. Do you have any suggestion that he has denied responsibility?

The best I can come up with is a letter to Congress pursuant to the War Powers Act:

On September 12, 2012, in response to an attack on our diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four U.S. citizens, including U.S. Ambassador John Christopher Stevens, a security force from the U.S. Africa Command deployed to Libya to support the security of U.S. personnel in Libya. Further, on September 13, an additional security force arrived in Yemen in response to security threats there.

Although these security forces are equipped for combat, these movements have been undertaken solely for the purpose of protecting American citizens and property. These security forces will remain in Libya and in Yemen until the security situation becomes such that they are no longer needed.

These actions have been directed consistent with my responsibility to protect U.S. citizens both at home and abroad, and in furtherance of U.S. national security and foreign policy interests, pursuant to my constitutional authority to conduct U.S. foreign relations and as Commander in Chief and Chief Executive.

I am providing this report as part of my efforts to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution (Public Law 93-148). I appreciate the support of the Congress in these actions.

Sincerely,

BARACK OBAMA

It seems pretty clear from the letter that the President views the security of diplomatic personnel to be his responsibility.

you really think hillary just came out and said

I take responsibility," Clinton said in a written statement. "I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people all over the world (at) 275 posts."

without obama's approval? of course she had obama's approval. the election is weeks away and obama has remained largely silent. instead of the buck stops with me....hillary has to go out there and claim responsibility and state she is the one in charge. that is the president's job. he shouldn't have to wait until after his subordinate takes responsibility. at least you admit he has not said he is responsible and has not said that he is in charge. nope...hillary said that. until obama steps up to the plate, he has thrown hillary under the bus.

But he did say he is responsible. It's right there in the text of the letter that I posted.

he did not say he was responsible for that direct incident. that is language he likely uses all the time when consulting congress under the act. it is boiler plate language and you know it. the whole paragraph is merely a recitation of his duties under the law, not him taking personal responsibility. he left that for hillary so it wouldn't hurt his election chances. you really are a true obama apologist.

until he says the incident was his responsibility, he literally has shirked his responsibility again and thrown yet another person under his bus.

lol

candy ask him if the buck stops with hillary. so, we can clearly see that other people also took hillary's statement as i did, even a liberal news person.

and it took prompting...he should have taken responsibility before hillary...another example of poor leadership

i can always tell when nigel gets embarrassed for his claims...he starts in with the one liners...i love it...lolers...etc

like clockwork

I'm embarrassed for you, Yurt. Basically, everything Obama does is wrong. You criticize Obama for not taking responsibility and then when he does take responsibility -- within hours of your initial criticism -- you criticize him for that. It's hilarious.

actually, i already criticized him for not taking responsibility first. so your claim is not true. it is a poor sign of leadership to have your secretary take the heat first and then to only accept responsibility when called out on the debate floor.

i've defended obama saying the attacks were an act of terror, but does nigel acknowledge that? of course not, that doesn't fit his must defend obama at all costs mind set.
