Obama needs a prayer vigil for obamacare

Don't see it overturning without him losing. Intrade now has Obama at 60 percent.
Only SCOTUS could over turn it from a practical stand point. Even if Obama was to lose re-election, Republicans would need to take the White House, The House of Reps and have a 60 member majority in the Senate to discard the PPACA (which is what Democrats had when they enacted the legislation). Even if SCOTUS were to rule against provisions of the PPACA that would only affect those provisions of the PPACA.

What I see happening is that as more and more aspects of the PPACA are implemented the act will become more and more popular with the public. Those aspects of it that have been implemented are all ready very popular.

The prohibition of pre-existing condition exclusion and of coverage limits and caps is all ready quite popular. So is permitting dependent childrend to stay on insurance to age 26 is also popular and the enhanced methods for fraud detection has also proven quite popular (It should as it's saving the public a lot of money). The new appeals process for when patients are denied claims is also proving very popular. The reich wing wants to talk about death panels. Well this provision has all ready prevented insurance company death panels from condeming very sick patients to certain death by denying their claims. Thank GOD for that provision.

The big one that will make the PPACA hugely popular with be in 2014 when the Health Exchange provision is implemented. I don't think it will be as popular or as affective as a public option would have been but I think with the millions of people it will bring into the fold that if private insurers don't reduce costs and improve coverage then then they'll be staring at the specter of a public option so they should be motivated to perform. I think what I'll have fun with is that the "Health Exchange" concept which Republican insisted on over a public option is based after the French public health insurance model. Considering how reich wingers tend to be Francophobes I kinda like that idea. :)

Have we ever reversed a major benefit like this other than curtailing welfare?
This really isn't a benefit, other than how the provisions of PPACA impact medicare/medicaid. The reason most social safety nets are not reversed is because of their popularity. Look at Medicare/Medicaid. It came about in the 1950's because more and more seniors and their families could not afford the cost of health insurance for their aging parents. Now a days the single biggest cause of bankruptcy are health care costs. My brother burned through a quarter of a million dollars in short order for his cancer treatments. He's approaching the half million point now. If caps were permitted and pre-existing condition exemptions permited he would be financially ruined. He still has his home and some investment income but this illness has wiped out his retirement fund. He was fortunate in that if this had happened 3 years ago he would have been financially ruined by now.
