Obama miscues

LONDON – It was all going so well.

But when the time came for President Obama to deliver his toast to Queen Elizabeth Tuesday night, the meticulously planned state dinner at Buckingham Palace turned, well, awkward.

As Obama began wrapping up his remarks, he put down his notecards and picked up his glass.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast,” the president said, as the guests stood up. “To her majesty the Queen.”

At this point, the band queued up “God Save the Queen.” But Obama wasn’t quite finished yet.

So he kept talking – over the British national anthem – and the president competed with orchestra for a few more seconds.

“For the vitality,“ Obama said just before the music started, “of the special relationship between our peoples, and in the words of Shakespeare, ‘To this blessed plot, this Earth, this realm, this England.’”

Obama raised his glass, but nobody else in view of the camera followed. And the queen, who had been looking straight ahead, glanced over to offer a pained smile.

“A minor mishap,” a BBC commentator said Tuesday night on air.

The White House declined a request for comment.

Yep. More desperate deflection.
You must be so ashamed of Sarah and Michele...

Here's your term for the day...stuffed shirt.

There is still evidence of why we had a revolution.

It's nothing new...Americans have always been viewed by the British as brash and uncouth. I guess you didn't know that, being too busy bashing our President.

America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.

the sad part is that almost all of you endorse the stupidity of politicians, so long as they have the correct letter after their name. pitiful.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH

I loved how in the video they all just stare at him like he's an imbecile~ well....yeah~

Imagine the leader of the Free World so out of touch with Royal etiquette... I mean beejeesus even Sarah could have gotten a simple toast right DOH!

Because an intimate knowledge of British royal protocol is so much more important than something insignificant, like, say, getting Osama?

In response to Mr. Wilde, I want to point out that we achieved civilization from 1900-1960. Oh, well...

 It was not a "stuffed shirt" moment it was a gaffe! That you have no problem "bashing" conservatives hardly makes you a spokesperson for shaming others. Obama is especially fair game what with all the Palin is so dumb; Bush is so dumb'; Bachman is so dumb...etc etc etc. What goes around and all that~

Well you know how much Obama likes to bloviate and hear the sound of his own voice... He couldn't get the toast done before the music began...and what does he do-he just keeps right on talking!
He sees himself as more important than other world leaders and centuries of protocol...

I think it was funnier when GHWB didn't have the sense to excuse himself when he felt sick at a state dinner, and threw up on the Japanese Prime Minister.

Talk about gaffes! :barf:
