Obama Launches More Military Strikes

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/06/10/3241491.htm

The United States has resumed missile strikes against Al Qaeda targets in the trouble-torn country of Yemen.

The strikes were suspended as Yemen's military battled a concerted uprising against the 30-year rule of president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

But fears of an Al Qaeda resurgence in the region have prompted the US to strike back.

US officials consider Yemeni-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) to be a serious threat to national security.

AQAP is widely thought to be behind several terror plots, including the so-called underpants bomber who made an unsuccessful attempt to blow up a US airliner.

Experts say the rebellion against the reign of Mr Saleh has created a power vacuum which AQAP could exploit.

Gregory Johnston, an expert on Middle Eastern politics from Princeton University, says the situation is dangerous.

Back before Obama became president, when the cries of every liberal were deafening, over GWB's efforts in the War on Terror... I said, probably the best thing that could ever happen for the War on Terror, was for a liberal to become president. Damn if that doesn't seem to be the case!

We hear not a peep from the liberals about this, or our involvement in Libya, which, contrary to popular belief, does involve 'boots on the ground.' There are no protests, no over-hyped exaggerated rhetoric, no writhing and moaning in the floor... nothing! Not a word from liberals! It's as if it is perfectly fine for the president to launch military attacks wherever he pleases, not bothering to even inform Congress, and the liberals who were ready to lynch Bush, have no problem with it whatsoever.

Excuse me, but aren't we "creating more terrorists?" Isn't Yemen a "sovereign nation?" When did the United Nations unanimously approve our actions in Yemen? Where is the declaration of war? We're "going after alQaeda" but, I thought killing OBL was all that mattered to liberals? What does the "Arab Street" think about this? Are they suddenly okay with us bombing their people since it's Obama doing it? What about the hundreds of thousands of innocent people we are killing with our indiscriminate bombing?

Man, once you guys latch onto a theme, it's neverending. Is that what the Obama Presidency is for you...one long stretch of being able to say "where are the liberals now?" Posts like this always tell me how tragically painful the Bush years were for you.

As for the liberals you speak of, the anti-war left is still the anti-war left; less media coverage, but they're still pissed...

It's just amazing how we don't hear from them. When Bush was president, he couldn't FART near a country without liberals having a cow! Now it seems the president can invade and conquer with impunity, and not a peep from the anti-war left. Let's see... there's been Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, and now Yemen. If this were Bush, you'd all be parading around with some kook theory he was in bed with the Saudis or something.

you're a broken record and an extreme far left hack who always apologizes for the left. anytime someone rightly points out the hypocrisy of the left, you get in a tizzy and trot your "where are the liberals now"....yet...whenever someone on the left points out hypocrisy by the right, you either agree or are silent.

typical onceler double standard

I'm a broken record? Really?

How many "where are the lefties" now posts do you & Dix have by now? It's past dozens - I'd wager it's in the hundreds. No surprise you'd immediately get whiny & defensive about my response.

See mirror, Yurtsie...

Man, you have a hard time reading. Yes - I have no problem pointing out that "where are the lefties now" is pretty much what you do.

With Dix, it's more of a side hobby. There is some frequency there, but at least he posts other drivel at times...

I really think we should leave Yemen the fuck alone. Mainly because of their rebellion, which we fostered. It';s entirely hypocritical of us to cause (indirect as it may be) a revolution and then attempt to put it down.

lmao...THREE times in one thread and you've only posted THREE times

no, not a broken record at all....:palm:

I assume that this is about Yemen... (didn't read the thread)....

Does anybody know which side are the bad guys in this one? Are we doing this to support the Yemeni Government or to give the Muslim Brotherhood (recently changed their name to the "Justice and Peace Party" in Egypt) another place to play?
