The White House has offered no comment on Wednesday's drunken driving arrest of Obama, according to news reports.
Obama was arrested last week in Framingham, Mass. on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle to endanger and failing to yield the right of way. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
When asked if he wanted to make to make a telephone call to arrange for bail, Obama stated, "I think I will call the White House," according to the police report.
A breathalyzer test after Obama's arrest indicated a blood alcohol content of .14. The legal limit for operating a motor vehicle in all states is .08.
The officer pulled over Obama's white Mitsubishi SUV after the officer noticed that he had rolled a stop sign, the police report said. The officer said Obama was slurring his words during the initial conversation.
"The male would not allow me to speak and continued to interrupt me," the officer wrote in his report, continuing that after the officer explained why he was being pulling over the driver, Obama "continued arguing the point with me. He felt that his 'stop' was adequate enough, though he did acknowledge that he should have yielded to me as I was in a main lane of travel that he was attempting to enter."
The report said, the officer had asked how much Obama had to drink that evening, which he initially replied he had nothing to drink. After the officer told Obama that a strong odor of alcohol was evident, Obama admitted to having one beer. When the officer told Obama that his behavior indicated the consumption of more than one beer, Obama then said he had two beers.
Then the officer proceeded to begin field sobriety testing with Obama. They began with the one-legged stand, and the officer said Obama would frequently begin the test without being instructed to do so. Obama was then asked to perform the Nine Step Walk and Turn test, where the officer notes in the report that Obama was barely able to keep himself from falling over.
Finally, Obama was asked to perform a horizontal gaze test, where the driver is to keep his head still while following his eyes with the officer's finger. After Obama had difficulty concentrating, the officer placed him under arrest.
