It isn't a recognized mental illness. A transgender person is not out of touch with reality. They are not all that different from someone that wants their breasts enlarged or hair restored through surgery. They are not comfortable in their current body. This isn't a case of them denying reality.
Someone with psychosis is out of touch with reality. They believe multiple things that aren't true. They have delusions. They spend time expounding on their reality.
