Bottom line is that the show was nothing more than a democrat party propaganda arm. They lost viewers and more importantly they lost ad revenue. Deadly combination for keeping your job.

Colbert is just another shining example of how leftists fuck up everything they touch
Think back to the days of Carson and Leno . They didn’t completely shy away from politics but they didn’t take an overtly partisan tone. They made jokes about everybody.
More importantly unlike Colbert and his ilk they didn’t show outright disdain and loathing for half of the country.
That is why Colbert has gone the way of Olberman. He isn’t funny. He is losing money for his bosses. It isn’t complicated

His show lost $40,000,000.00 a year. He is VERY lucky to have lasted this long. The soon to be late Late Show cost $100 million a year to produce and Gutfield costs $10 ten million to produce. His not funny over the airway show is broadcast to almost every TV in the country. Gutfield's cable show is broadcast to just 51 million homes and has 40% higher ratings. If Cobert was actually a funny comedian than just an occasionally funny political activist his show might not be getting canceled.
It breaks down like this. Colbert only appealed to %50 the potential audience and had to share them with 2 other late night hosts. So his actual audience was 1/6th potential audience. It is telling that his defenders are the likes of Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren maybe they should offer to pay for his $40 million dollar a year loss out of their pockets .

so Colbert won't have his freedom of speech silenced by the federal government as protected by the First Amendment?
There is a difference between CBS having heartburn about Colbert criticizing them the night before he was axed and Trump demanding of CBS that he be fired or else.
If the latter happened, I would be opposed to it.
But it did not. Here is the thing, freedom of speech sometimes comes with consequences. You don't get to bash your employer over the airwaves they pay you occupy for one hour a night.
So stop with the hyperbole that you can't back up

Perhaps but it won't be broadcast into 100% of the TVs in the country. It will be piped to a much smaller audience. And that is a good thing.

Colbert is doing something right. Look at how scared the MAGATs are of him. 
He's of course not funny to Trump dimwits. His audience of normal people has steadily migrated to streaming services and that is the problem CBS is facing.
