I do recall that the Bush years caused our deficit to double, and for the past 7 years ever bit of our increased deficit has been caused by republican spending bills.

Deficits fell the later part of Clintons tenure... under Rep control of Congress.

Deficits fell the later part of Obama's tenure... under both Dem, then Rep control of Congress.

The Obama years were by far the worst for deficit spending. Not even close to Bush levels. Obama (and now Trump) still haven't gotten deficit spending back to pre-crisis levels.
