WHICH THREAT ARE CONS FOCUSED ON?

North Korea said on Sunday a submarine-launched ballistic missile test it conducted under the supervision of leader Kim Jong Un had been a “great success” that provided “one more means for powerful nuclear attack.”

The launch is the latest in a recent string of North Korean demonstrations of military might that began in January with its fourth nuclear test and included the launch of a long-range rocket the next month.

The tests have increased tension on the Korean peninsula, angered ally China and triggered new U.N. sanctions. Analysts say the tests could be part of a bid by Kim to bolster his position in the run-up to a rare ruling party congress in May.

Concern has been growing that North Korea could soon conduct another nuclear test.

The North claims that U.S. military action on the Korean peninsula justifies its aggressive pursuit of nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them.
Ri Jong Ryul, a former North Korean ambassador and current deputy-director general of the Institute of International Studies in Pyongyang, said the North's tests were "fair self-defensive measures" in the face of a U.S. "nuclear threat and blackmail."
He pointed to Key Resolve, the ongoing joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises, as an example of what he termed a "hostile policy" toward North Korea by the United States.
"As long as the U.S. doesn't cancel its nuclear war exercise and its hostile policy against us, we will continue powerfully advancing with our nuclear activity without resting a day," he said.

“Should a grown man pretending to be a woman be allowed to use the women’s restroom?” it asks, in ominous black-and-white captions over photos of a once-peaceful toilet, now sullied by trans people. “The same restroom used by your daughter? Your wife?”

This is a response to Trump’s comments on the Today show yesterday that North Carolina’s anti-trans bathroom law probably went too far. Trump’s head balloons onscreen: “People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate,” he says, in a soundbite snippet.

“Donald Trump thinks so,” the captions resume solemnly. “It’s not appropriate. It’s not safe. It’s PC nonsense that’s destroying America. Donald Trump won’t take on the PC police. He’s one of them.”

Even by the standards of shitty ads, this one is remarkably, baldly bigoted. Notably, it doesn’t feature a voiceover from Ted Cruz, as is usual with campaign ads, saying, “I’m Ted Cruz and I approve this message.” It’s tempting to think that’s because Cruz wanted to distance himself from such an active garbage fire of a sentiment, but in reality, they’re probably exploiting some campaigning loophole we remain unaware of.

As you might expect—and as was surely the intention—it’s playing very well with Cruz’s voter base.

Cruz slams transgender bathroom controversy

Ted Cruz

Cruz: If Trump dresses up as Clinton, he still can’t go to girls’ bathroom
Trump: 'I'm only interested in the first ballot'

on Thursday criticized the backlash to North Carolina's transgender bathroom law after Republican presidential rival Donald Trump indicated he opposed the controversial measure.

"We have gone off the deep end. This is absurd," Cruz said during an interview with conservative radio host Glenn Beck, a backer of the GOP White House hopeful's campaign.

Beck asked Cruz how he'd argue that his position isn't aimed at targeting transgender people but rather at "the heterosexual pervert" who would try to flout gender-specific bathroom laws.

Cruz pointed to his two daughters, ages 5 and 8, arguing that the younger one "knows the difference between boys and girls."

"You've got the Obama Education Department suing to try to force junior highs to let teenage boys to shower with teenage girls," he later said.

"That's crazy. It's not a reasonable position," Cruz continued. "The idea that grown men would be allowed alone in a bathroom with little girls — you don't need to be a behavior psychologist to realize that bad things can happen, and any prudent person wouldn't allow that."

Because a trans in a restroom could end civilization as we know it, whereas a nuclear warhead launched from a North Korean sub...oh, wait.

Parrish Clodfelter professes opinions about transgender people that might get him fired if he worked for a multinational corporation, though for many here, they constitute simple country wisdom.

“A man wants to change to a woman, he’s got a mental problem,” Mr. Clodfelter said over lunch at Spiro’s Family Restaurant, where posters by the door advertised classes on carrying concealed weapons and a “Hillbilly Sunday” Pentecostal church service.

But Mr. Clodfelter has a different kind of problem. As a longtime Republican, he wants to support Pat McCrory, North Carolina’s Republican governor, in his re-election bid.

At the same time, Mr. Clodfelter is worried about the boycotts and lost jobs resulting from the law the governor signed in March that limits transgender bathroom access and eliminates antidiscrimination protections for gay and transgender people.

If the backlash continues, Mr. Clodfelter said, he will consider voting for McCrory’s Democratic opponent, Roy Cooper, who supports the law’s repeal.

“I’m afraid if they don’t change it,” he said, “it’ll hurt the state.”
