North Carolina May Declare Official State Religion Under New Bill

Now the republicans in North Carolina have decided to work on their voter disenfranchisement skills. All the usual voter ID restrictions, shorter early voting periods, and usual Jim Crow laws with a new one...

Tax parents of college age children who don't vote from their home town.

Hmmm....

Dear North Carolina,

Didja know poll taxes are unconstitutional?

SB 667, sponsored by a group of Republicans, would amend current tax exemption practices to levy large additional fees on the parents of college students who register to vote anywhere in the state that isn't listed as their home address.

I'm going to repeat my question that has yet to get an answer.

WHEN WILL THESE IDIOTS START PROPOSING LEGISLATION THAT'S CONSTITUTIONAL?

God forbid people should actually be eligible before going off to vote...

I don't think anyone said that, 3D. I know we've all been through this a thousand times before, but if the states put up the funds and transportation for elderly to get voter ID's I'd support it.

But shortening early voting days is wrong and unconstitutional...just look at what happened here in Florida.

And, the college students? Why punish their parents with a tax? They go to college, live on campus or in the community up to four years, have ID's...why shouldn't they be allowed to vote where they live?

Here's why: Because republicans think they vote primarily democratic, and want to make it difficult.

Same with the old people.

Got a link about this, scumbag ?

Reminds me of the pinheads that require background checks, now proposing insurance(in reality, a tax), confiscating guns because of something a son or doughter MIGHT had said
at school, having a spouse gettting mental care, serving in the military, etc.....hows that for unconstitutional....
while you whine about proving your a citizen in order to vote....

You don't lose your right to vote for any of the above but you do lose you right to keep and bear arms....

Only difference is one's legal (taxes on guns) and one's unconstitutional (poll taxes).

But I swear you've been reading my mind.

Early voting is a nice luxury. Not long ago you a less than 24 hour window to vote. I know where I live, we are at the forefront of absentee and early voting in WA and OR, which often clouds my view, but we have waaaay too much time to "get it right." I am all for providing the needy and poor with easy, even funded, access to personal ID cards if they are somehow existing in the 21st Century without one, as long as we can get this obvious necessity taken care if once and for all.
