[h=1]McDonald's thief takes order and a $386 tip for herself, O'Fallon, Mo., police say[/h]
A McDonald's employee who wore her uniform to sneak behind the counter and into the cash register at another McDonald's restaurant is facing misdemeanor stealing charges.
According to police, Jade Alexandria Mills, 21, was an employee of a McDonald's in Wentzville. But on Aug. 20, she put on her uniform and went into the McDonald's restaurant near Highway K and Interstate 70 in O'Fallon.
Mills showed up during a shift change, so initially, she was able to blend in with the other employees, police said. Surveillance video showed Mills was in the restaurant for only a few minutes, but while she was there, she worked the register, even taking a couple of orders.
During one transaction, after Mills gave the customer change, she took $386 out of the cash register drawer for herself, police said.
Shortly after that, the store manager — not knowing yet that Mills had stolen the money — asked Mills who she was. Mills told her that she was transferred from another store to this store, and this was her first day of work.
While the manager asked her to wait so that she could confirm it with the other store, Mills left, police said. Surveillance captured an image of her leaving in a vehicle driven by someone else.
After a few days, O’Fallon police were able to track down the getaway driver, who then gave up Mills’ identity.
Detectives confirmed that she worked at the Wentzville McDonald's, and they showed a photo lineup to the O’Fallon store manager, who confirmed that Mills was the individual who stole money at the register.
