Law enforcement and Jewish organizations across the country are urging vigilance after a neo-Nazi group proclaimed this Saturday to be a national "Day of Hate."

Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath, which many Jews observe by attending synagogue prayer services.

Several hate groups have said they are participating in the event, including the Goyim Defense League, whose propaganda apparently motivated the suspect in the shooting last week of two Los Angeles men who were returning from synagogue.

"This is all about harassing Jews and creating a public space for hate mongers. This becomes a recruitment tool to invite others into this dark place of promoting hate and antisemitism," said Jason Shames, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. "Nobody should tolerate this. The community at large needs to unify against hate."

Synagogues nationwide urge caution — while some propose countering the hate with a Shabbat themed on peace and love

As warnings surfaced nationwide about a “Day of Hate” planned by extremists, New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke in support of Jewish New Yorkers at a Broadway show targeted by neo-Nazis.

“We have the largest Jewish population outside of Tel Aviv. And when you come out and really cross-pollinate ideas and culture, that’s the beauty and a symbol of New York City,” the mayor told the sold-out audience at the Thursday night performance of Parade.

The play is about the real-life case of Leo Frank, a Jewish man charged with the rape and murder of a non-Jewish teenager in Georgia in 1913. Frank was convicted and sentenced to death, but the governor commuted his sentence to life in prison. A mob then dragged him from his cell and lynched him.

On Tuesday, several individuals belonging to a neo-Nazi group held signs and passed out flyers in front of the theater, calling Frank a “pedophile” and accosting audience members standing in line.


One congregant of a West Virginia synagogue told the Forward that Saturday services had been canceled. Calls to the synagogue were not immediately returned.

US authorities warned that neo-Nazi extremist groups are planning a "Day of Hate" for Saturday.

Several white supremacist groups coordinated the "Day of Hate" on Telegram, researchers said.

This comes as there has been a rise in antisemitic violence across the US in the past year, according to Axios, as well as an increase in racist social media posts. Jewish people have consistently been targeted in bias crimes more often than any other group in the United States, according to FBI statistics.

Amid a rise in antisemitism sweeping across the United States in recent years, a group is planning a "National Day of Hate" against the Jewish community on Saturday.

On its website, NWS describes itself as "the political party for every patriotic White American of moral strength and good character," which is open to members of "non-Semitic heterosexuals of genetic European descent."

The NSM idolizes Adolf Hitler, describing him as "the beloved Holy Father of our age" and "a visionary in every respect." The group also focuses on the African-American community as well as immigration on the southern U.S. border.

The NSM has held many rallies in the past few decades, bringing together other white power groups, including the Ku Klux Klan.
