A teacher was arrested Wednesday for bringing a gun to the town's middle school, police said.

The 46-year-old teacher, Jason Adams, has a valid pistol permit, but Connecticut state law prohibits possession of firearms on school grounds.

A telephone message seeking comment was left at Adams' home in Newtown.

Adams was detained by school security after he was seen with the gun and then arrested by Newtown police who were called to Newtown Middle School, according to Police Chief James Viadero. Adams was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and released.

Is it a Constitutional right to have guns on school property? What about court rooms?

I just want the right to have a gun if, and when, crime or government gets overreaching. If for some reason that right needs to be exercised in schools and court rooms, then yes, it should be a Constitutional right.

What scenario do you see that happening in?

Doesn't seem like it. But do you believe he has a constitutional right to bear arms on school or court property?

No, although a statute could be fixed giving him that right. I don't think it's a constitutionally protected right, though.

Let's say an armed sociopath walks through the doors of either a school or a court room and open fires on a given room. If this is the second time or more that this sort of thing has happened in the same school or court room, then I'm gonna want to have the right to at least have a concealed carry permit so that I have a chance to drop him before he completely empties his chambers.

SmarterThanYou, should guns be allowed in court and the school yard?

the current 'federal' law against guns on and in schools is unconstitutional, therefore the 2nd Amendment applies. we have that right.

the state laws require a permit for carry, even though the state constitution guarantees a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state. my opinion insofar as the state law goes is he should be able to carry in the school. probably not the court though.
