The nation’s largest pediatric hospital has announced it has stopped "gender-affirming therapies" after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the state’s child welfare agency to investigate reports of "gender-confirming care" for kids as abuse.

Texas Children’s Hospital, located in Houston, announced that its decision to stop such hormone-related prescription therapies was made after it reviewed Abbott’s order, which came when Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton last month released a nonbinding legal opinion that labeled certain "gender-confirming treatments" as child abuse.

“The mission of Texas Children’s Hospital is to create a healthier future for all children, including transgender children, within the bounds of the law. This step was taken to safeguard our health care professionals and impacted families from potential criminal legal ramifications,” the hospital wrote in a statement.

A Florida police chief has been given the boot after an investigation found he engaged in discriminatory promotion practices, and remarked “that wall is too white” when looking at pictures of the department’s command staff.

Larry Scirotto — who took over the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in August — was fired by the city manager, according to a press release.

The report followed several discrimination complaints that alleged Scirotto, 48, made hiring and promotion decisions with an illegal race-based approach.

Scirotto, a former assistant chief in DEMOCRAT-dominated (and crime-infested) Shittsburgh, became the first openly gay chief hired in Fort Lauderdale last year.

Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz is working with a reduced force after many officers quit in the past two years.

The city council responded by cutting millions from the police department’s budget, including cutting the salary of then-chief Carmen Best, part of a DEMOCRAT push to reallocate police funds to social programs.

Diaz became interim police chief in 2020 after Ms. Best, Seattle’s first Black female police chief, resigned.

Bungling Biden's war has exposed the West's decay

This has happened before, of course. In Rome, in Egypt, and the other great empires of the past, success led to complacency, then decadence, then an inability to notice the danger until it was too late.

“It was scarcely possible that the eyes of contemporaries should discover in the public felicity the latent causes of decay and corruption,” Edward Gibbon wrote in The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.

His point is simple: insiders are typically the worst at spotting the rot.

This is perhaps why so many failed to notice the indicators blinking red.

While Xi Jinping was resetting the world order through his Belt and Road initiative and Vladimir Putin was recreating the Russian empire, the left was arguing for gender-neutral toilets.

It perhaps goes without saying that the policy advisers surrounding Xi and Putin noticed all this and more (as can be seen from leaked policy documents), sending their bots in their hundreds of thousands to inflame these pseudo-disputes and coax us ever deeper into the self-indulgent echo chambers that dominate the online world.

I guess I am not alone in fearing that the metaverse, with its virtual ecospheres and fictional identities, will accelerate these trends, pushing us deeper into the metaphysical wormhole of digital escapism – and away from empirical reality.

Some have wondered why China has prevaricated when it comes to an amphibious assault on the island of Taiwan, but the answer has been in front of our noses. They delayed because they feared short-term military defeat before, but now they believe time is on their side.
