• By a margin of almost nine to one, Americans agree that “government investments in education, infrastructure, and science are necessary to ensure America’s long-term economic growth,” (79 percent agree, 12 percent neutral, 9 percent disagree).

• More than three in four Americans (76 percent) also agree with the president’s argument that “America’s economic future requires a transformation away from oil, gas, and coal to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.”

• Nearly three in four Americans believe that “government regulations are necessary to keep businesses in check and protect workers and consumers,” (73 percent agree, 15 percent neutral, 12 percent disagree).

• Nearly two in three Americans (65 percent) agree that “the federal government should guarantee affordable health coverage for every American.”

I agree with all of these, but guaranteeing something does not mean it has to provide something. There is a difference.

I've said long ago, the two parties have the same goals, just a different path to get there. Yet you keep posting polls like these as if we're supposed to be surprised.

On the link it shows that we are a left leaning country with self ID being about split down the middle of left and right.

single payer is not the same as providing the care.
It does however limit and cause issues of its own. There is nothing like a government entity deciding on what the "best care" is for you. In Britain they had people having to go nearly blind in both eyes before they'd pay for an eye surgery...

Seriously, it's demented to believe that when government pays for something it won't end up being rationed. Having the government pay for something does nothing to reduce the costs.

and what would you call the rationing we now have?

all based on how much money you can pay.
Difference, you can pay to fill the gap, cover with different insurances, etc.

In single payer systems you cannot. In Canada they even made it illegal.

Again, it is mind numbingly demented to limit choices in order to "fix" such a problem then expect a better result.

It's one of the reasons I prefer Obama's plan to Single Payer solutions.

Polling data can be very accurate or it can turn out the way the people doing the polling want it to turn out.

I am not disputing the results. But I am always curious about the way the questions are worded.

seems like all of these are what we want but the question is whats the solution. For example I disagree with some sort of welfare national health care where everyone has equal coverage. I think there should be some basic level of health care that is given for free to those that cant afford it but that If i work hard I should have choice to pay and get better new age health care

which is why we have more people becoming democrats.
But be carefull some of the turbo-libs think dems can do no wrong.
The number of people without healthcare is a TROJAN HORSE.
MANY DON'T WANT IT.

This is not true. Survey after survey has revealed liberalism as a tiny minority of the American populace (17 - 19%). The tenets mentioned above are not inherently liberal; many Americans view them as being common-sense, myself included. As Damocles pointed out, there is a distinction between guaranteeing and providing.

Obama's victory was not a mandate for big government. We are a right-leaning country, and will remain that way in the foreseeable future.

every time anyone tries to fix the problems this is what we get from the right.

Every time the left tries to fix the problems all we get is:

"The Government can do it better".

"Don't worry let Uncle Sam handle it."

"You are not smart enough to spend or invest your money. Let the government do it for you."

"You are a Capitalist pig. Sit down, shut up and let the poor run the country... by electing the people who will raise your taxes and give to the poor."

Forgive me, Desh, but I damned sure do not trust politicians to look out for my best interests.

Think Progress is a project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund. The Center for American Progress Action Fund is a nonpartisan organization. Through this blog, CAPAF seeks to provide a forum that advances progressive ideas and policies.

Why would you waste your time even discussing this idiotic poll....
This is a far left org....just because they claim they are nonpartisan doesn't make it so....

progressive ideas and policies. ....what the hell does that tell you....

A left wing outfit that polls their followers and claims its a realistic picture of what the citizens of the US want.....what bullshit....

OK you complete fucking idiot they did not do the POLLS.

There are two polls and there are links to both of them.

Pay attention or shut the fuck up.

THIS is a fucking lie Immie, WE DO NOT SAY THESE THINGS YOU GUYS PRETEND WE DO!

The things I posted are direct fucking quotes from the right.

"Forgive me, Desh, but I damned sure do not trust politicians to look out for my best interests."

In this sentance you have just said you dont like the government the founders left us.

Great then leave the country and let the adults take care of this one.

Even thought it would end Personal Injury law and my livelyhood, I will support a single payer system, its the best answer to the health care problems we currently face and it works very well in other developed nations.
