"The newest congressmen from the contentious 2010 mid-term elections haven't even been sworn in yet, but the race for the White House in 2012 is already taking center stage for many in Washington.

Recently, as Republicans of many stripes start publicly flirting with a presidential run, President Obama's advisers hinted that they will be campaigning from Chicago, ending a 40-year tradition for incumbents.

Now, a new CNN poll provides some fresh data on the standing for candidates on both sides of the aisle. The poll finds that Mr. Obama's standing with Democrats for their 2012 nomination is improving, while Tea Party champion Sarah Palin has lost ground to fellow potential Republican candidates Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich...

Palin, Huckabee, Romney & Gingrich.

The GOP is going to "Dole" it again...

They did it in '08. They pulled out the shovels and dug up the corpse of John McCain, dusted him off and put him in front of the country just to dispell the myth that the Republicans are the party of old, cranky, white men with goiters the size of grapefruits. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

I guess they figured that in '96, Dole wasn't old and grumpy enough, so the strategists they are, they went ahead and pushed all in with dear old Dad in '08.

But now, they got SMART! No more ancient cranks! Old didn't work! So they've shrewdly gone back to their more recent success..... STUPID! It worked in '00 and '04, and goddammit it'll work in '12!

Why do people insist on including Palin, Huckabee and Gingrich in these polls?

Can we get a poll for Democrats that includes Bill Clinton, Rahm Immanual, and a handful of naturalized citizens?

Palin, Huckabee and Gingrich are much more likely to run than Immanual, Bill Clinton or any naturalized citizens. They also enjoy more support from the Republicans than those you mentioned do from the Democrats, except Bill Clinton who is not elegable.

Interesting. It clearly shows Huckabee is the front runner for the GOP nomination. That's fantastic news for Obama and Democrats. Romney is the only one of those four that stands a chance of beating Obama.

How so? The GOP is the party of primogeniture. That's what killed them with Dole and McCain. I'd say Romney stands a better chance in the general election then he does with the Republican nomination, that has to be just maddening for him.

By Dole it, I mean basically blowing an election that they might otherwise have a good shot at.

I think Romney can be a somewhat strong candidate, but the Mormon thing is still a biggie in a general election. Watch the spotlight on that religion go up to 11 if he gets the nod, as well...

you better concentrate on this poll first....

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html

48% disapprove, 45.3% approve.....

He could have a 12% approval rating and he could beat Palin, Huckabee and Gingrich like an old rug. LOL

In those three you have

An ole country preacher who don't beleive in those new fangled confusing things like science. A neophyte house wife and a has been with more dirty laundry then Chinatown.

I'm sure that Romney does quite well with fiscal conservatives and I like him too but to mouth breathing social conservatives he's one step away from being a Muslim. He should do well in the early going. With Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada but if he doesn't win South Carolina he'll be toast on Super Tuesday.

I don't think so Oncie. Bush was so vastly unpopular that any GOP candidate would have been stained by his odure. The real election in 08 was between Clinton and Obama.

Just to cause confusion in the Democrate party; in 2012 the Republicans should run a women who is part Hispanic and part Black.

The left wouldn't know what to do.

Uh, the naturalized citizens aren't eligible to run, either. Immanual, the only one eligible, was also a joke, as I was making a point.

Palin destroyed her chances by resigning from governor, if not by being a complete moron.

Gingrich, who is smart, understands that his personal behavior has made him unelectable.

Huckabee has had his 5 min. of fame and got his message out. He strikes me as the kind of guy who is satisfied with that, and just wants to move on with his rockstar media status.
