Nelson Mandela Was On The U.S. Terrorist Watch List Until 2008



Former South African President Nelson Mandela passed away Thursday evening at the age of 95. While he was revered by politicians today as a human rights icon, Mandela remained on the U.S. terrorism watch list until 2008, when then-President George W. Bush signed a bill removing Mandela from it.

Then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called the restrictions a "rather embarrassing matter that I still have to waive in my own counterpart, the foreign minister of South Africa, not to mention the great leader Nelson Mandela."

"He had no place on our government's terror watch list, and I'm pleased to see this bill finally become law," then-Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) said in 2008.

South Africa’s apartheid regime designated Mandela’s African National Congress (ANC) as a terrorist organization for its battle against the nation’s legalized system of racial segregation that lasted from 1948 to 1994.

Former U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher also described Mandela’s ANC as a “typical terrorist organization” in 1987, refusing to impose sanctions on South Africa’s apartheid regime. President Ronald Reagan did as well.

In 1986, former Vice President Dick Cheney, then a congressman, voted along with 179 other members of the House against a non-binding resolution to recognize the ANC and call on the South African government to release Mandela from prison. The measure finally passed, but not before a veto attempt by Reagan.

In 2000, Cheney maintained that he'd cast the correct vote.

What happened to the first black president Bill Clinton? Why did he not remove him from the list? Guess he was too busy going after fat interns and getting his dick sucked to worry about it. We can just add it to his list of failures, along with the Rwandan Genocide....

The important take away here is that if you get on the terrorist watch list it literally takes an act of Congress to get your name removed from that list! Think about that for a while!

Not to the "machine" but to the Empire. Democratically elected leaders are not recognized by the west unless their puppet wins.

Hitler mentioned the same thing about Americans and their global interfering. If the Americans truly were a force for good, I wouldn't have a problem with it, though the west promises freedom but it's an empty promise that leads to slavery via capitalism.

Did you listen to this? It was a series of "he made a speech" complaints and ends before the speech concludes. Hitler did say it was "socialist Germany" in the speech near the end. Pretty amazing stuff, but not what you seem to think it is.

Of course I listened to the entire speech! He basically states that America is a global dictator! Which is odd considering the USA( And the Jewish run Federal Reserve) was financing Hitler and that the USA is more then 50% of German descent. I think it's all smoke and mirrors.....

Something doesn't smell right. The only explanation is the war was planned by all sides for profit.

Yeah, losing 50,000,000 lives is great for the bottom line. And the untold economic damage to the biggest industrial powers of the age.
