No. You've got it backwards. You can't have multiculturalism with out assimilation. Otherwise it's just segregation. We know from our experience with African Americans and Native Americans that segregation simply doesn't work.

Interesting topic. Anyone here in corp[orate America ever have to go to multicultural training classes? They are weird things and mostly about toleration of others. My mom spoke German as a child even though she was born here, my dad didn't learn his native language, his parents wanted him to be part of New York America. My wife's family spoke Polish and according to tradition were Jewish even though raised Catholic. In the end we are mixed salad rather than a melting pot. Each piece makes the whole thing a bit better. I'm often amazed at how Orientals keep to themselves still, Chinatown is a bit of an anomaly. But then drive a bit to Lancaster and the Amish and you enter another America. Now we have orthodox Jews all dressed in Black nearby, and so many Russians, some billboards are in Russian. Public school and TV eventually make us alike and hopefully we will stay alike in the important ways. Oh by the way the Italians have the best food, so let's not change them too much. LOL

That's not how its taught anymore. Assimilation and the Melting Pot theory are both viewed as negative.

key words...has been....not anymore

immigrants who came to this country prior to latter parts of the 20th century, by and large, did what they could to learn about america, such as learning english, such as learning its mulitude of cultures.....

now....we have a large base of immigrants who seemingly have no desire to learn about their new country, it is such an epidemic that we now have to have critical issues translated into spanish and don't even get started at our schools....this was not the case during the early or even middle part of last century, it was a point of pride that one learned english, now.....its a point of pride that we need to have many things in spanish and that we need to learn spanish in order to hold certain jobs.....

do you not agree that learning the native language of your new country is very important?

That's just not true Yurt. Most of the European immigrants who came over here were the pond scum low lifes of Europe who came to the US not knowing shit about this country other then it was a good place to start over free from European aristocrats who wanted to keep them in abject poverty or use them as canon fodder. In other words they had just as hard of a time assimilating as today's Mexicans do. Why do you think they set up rural villages and urban neighborhoods that have distinct ethnic culture to this day? Because these immigrants resisted assimilation. It was their children and grandchildren who assimilated. To my point, how many first and second generation children of Mexican immigrants do you know who don't speak English? Probably none. All the children of Mexicans I know, every single one of them, speaks English just fine.

Maybe it's different in California. My wife works with a lot of Mexican immigrants and like all such immigrants who don't learn English they have trouble assimilating. Hell my wife is an immigrant who has learned English and she has had problems assimilating to certain aspects of our culture. Many of her Mexican co-workers have not learned to Speak English well enough to assimilate but by god their kids have. That's my point. Assimilation doesn't occur in 2 minutes, 2 days or 2 years. It takes time and it is generational in nature.

When we start printing shit in spanish, and demeaning the host culture, even the children don't assimlated.

assimilation is not the goal of the multiculturalists anymore. Takeover is the goal now. Because elites hate freedom, and these new cultures are not as pro freedom, they are formed in contexts of tribalist hieararchical oppression, similar to the desires of the New World Orderers.
