Supposedly taken from a remote far forward position. Marines are reportedly mounting a large offensive to liberate him.

Americans should be mounting a large offensive to liberate the Marines and all US forces from another unwinnable "mission" that has no mission.

how bout we use it to provent someone form invading us.
7yrs latter and hundreds of thousands of towelheads dead. The original 11 are dead. Everyone they ever knew is dead. Now we want every party member dead before we quick getting our sons killed???

When exactly is it that you believe the US can use it's military?

The US can use it's military whenever it chooses as long as its willing to pay for the consequences of its actions.

However, the US SHOULD use it's military only when it's necessary and has a winnable mission. Our military should not be used as glorified and heavily-armed security guards for US business interests.

But don't take my word for it .. USMC Major General Smedley Butler said it best in 1939 ..

WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

Neither Obama or anybody else in government is telling you what that small group of insiders know about Afghanistan, no differently than they didn't tell you what they knew about Iraq and the real reasons for invasion there.

Our military should be used for home defense and humanitarian purposes, not for-profit enterprises.

That won't work my brother. It will only play into their hands .. just as our continued mass-murder of innocents is playing into their hands now.

Terrorism is best attacked by the police, not the military .. so says the Rand Corporation and I agree ...

Strategy Against Al-Qaeda Faulted - Report Says Effort Is Not a 'War'

The Bush administration's terrorism-fighting strategy has not significantly undermined al-Qaeda's capabilities, according to a major new study that argues the struggle against terrorism is better waged by law enforcement agencies than by armies.

The study by the nonpartisan Rand Corp. also contends that the administration committed a fundamental error in portraying the conflict with al-Qaeda as a "war on terrorism." The phrase falsely suggests that there can be a battlefield solution to terrorism, and symbolically conveys warrior status on terrorists, it said.

---

Addressing the U.S. campaign against al-Qaeda, the study noted successes in disrupting terrorist financing, but said the group remains a formidable foe. Al-Qaeda is "strong and competent," and has succeeded in carrying out more violent attacks since Sept. 11, 2001, than in all of its previous history. Moreover, its organizational structure has adapted and evolved over time, "making it a more dangerous enemy," Jones and Libicki wrote.

The authors call for a strategy that includes a greater reliance on law enforcement and intelligence agencies in disrupting the group's networks and in arresting its leaders. They say that when military forces are needed, the emphasis should be on local troops, which understand the terrain and culture and tend to have greater legitimacy.

In Muslim countries in particular, there should be a "light U.S. military footprint or none at all," the report contends.

"The U.S. military can play a critical role in building indigenous capacity," it said, "but should generally resist being drawn into combat operations in Muslim societies, since its presence is likely to increase terrorist recruitment."

Now Obama is following the same flawed and failed strategy of the Bush Administration, the Soviet Union, and all other nations who never learn the limits of military power.

One other point .. if you want to stop terrorism, stop using it.

You dummy that would be what they want. *shrug*

I wonder if Obama could take time out of his busy schedule to give a speech, maybe tell the world he is "deeply troubled" by this.... I bet that is all it would take and those mean old talibans would turn this guy loose.

Wasn't the big course of action you were screaming for in the Iran situation...a speech by Obama?

Maybe they can get Rosie O'Donnell to give the Tailiban leaders a big hug and make it all OK for them. *shrug*
