New Hampshire has been named the freest state in the United States according to The Cato Institute, a Washington, D.C. think tank.

The Granite State ranked No. 1 based on research including fiscal policy, personal freedoms, education, and others. New Hampshire ranked first in the fiscal category.

All the other states in New England finished in the bottom 20 in the rankings.

Among the unique facts about New Hampshire, the state holds the title as having the highest quality of life in the country. It also has the lowest poverty rate. The state is the only state with neither an income tax nor a sales tax. The state also has no seat belt laws and no mandatory car insurance thus relying on the free market to drive prices low enough to opt over 90% of drivers to have coverage. New Hampshire is also the only state in America to have abolished a previous state minimum wage law, thus having one of the lowest youth unemployment and adult unemployment rates in America, along with the lowest homeless population in America.

Rhode Island meanwhile, of equal size and population which also straddles Massachusetts, has among the highest minimum wage laws in America and also struggles with the country’s highest unemployment and homeless rates.

New Hampshire has no knife laws, very lax fireworks laws, and has banned police use of license plate readers and municipal use of red light cameras.
The Free State also has been ranked as having the highest income mobility for minorities in America.

Looks like Libertarianism is working pretty good for one state.

What is the Cato Institute, and why is its opinion worth having? I know who Cato was - a posturing Roman extremist, whose opinion wasn't worth much.

I am sure they have Google even in the Valleys! For all those that don't know Wales is a beautiful country, for the most part, filled with hate filled troglodytes like boyo here. They detest nearly everybody including the people of Cardiff whom they refer to disparagingly as Cardiff Cockneys.

You haven't established cause and effect, maybe New Hampshire just has fewer poor and uneducated and doesn't need government as much

Fewer uneducated = more libertarians.

Exactly. If we were all intelligent, educated and had good parents, we would need so much less government. But pretending people are those things doesn't make it that way. The reality is we need to help people get there. It would be wonderful if we could one day start reducing government because it stops being necessary to accomplish those things

so we need the government to step in for people being bad parents, or no parents??????

That was one of the things I mentioned, yes. And I didn't talk about parenting kids, I talked about making sure you have access to opportunity. You seem to like to skew and pigeon hole things people say

people need to be specific about things. otherwise I get to hear alot of bullshit like 'shall not be infringed' means 'reasonable regulations', yet i've not found a dictionary anywhere that defines things like that.

Interesting you pick that one since I've said I'm strongly in favor of gun rights and I even specifically said that the militia phrase in the second is not to limit "shall not be infringed."

So you in favor of people assuming your views until you prove otherwise?

my choice wasn't specifically directed at you, so please don't take offense.

i'm in favor of people adopting views that increase freedom, not just the freedom of some, but freedom of all.
