We have Epstein's emails, but they do not go back to 1985-1988, when this could have happened. The reason is obvious, few people had email back then. We do know that by the time Epstein got email, he and trump had been friends for a long time.
In 2002, trump claimed he had been best friends with Epstein for 15 years, so starting in 1987. That is a general number, so it could easily have meant in 1985. We know that in 1987, Epstein was bringing underage girls into trump's casino with trump's consent.

In 2002, trump said they had been friends for 15 years, which means they were friends in 1987. Jack O'Donnell the COO of trump plaza said that Epstein was illegally bringing underage girls to the casino with trump's permission in 1987.

DOJ going back to Bush Sr have refused to revisit this case due to knowing powerful rich donors and powerful rich government officials not just from the US but other countries would all be implicated.
This was a can of worms no one wanted to open and then be responsible for rich donors and powerful people in govt all turning against them.
Same reason these files were not used against Bill Clinton either.
